Mask of Zorro Whip

I´ve just seen on our favorite auction site a Mask of Zorro whip that is going for a bundle. Was this whip made by Joe Strain? I read somewhere that it was made while he was learning from David Morgan. There is no info regarding the maker on the auction site.

That one is made by David Morgan, it looks like his Indy whips, just in black. Joe Strain made whips for Legend of Zorro.
I'm curious how much will is cost at the end of bidding
Will it beat last record, over 5k $? How do you think?

Yes Tomek, I was aware of Joes whip work on the other Zorro films. Nevertheless check out this link and look under Joe Strain:
http://www.bullwhip.org/faq/vendors.html It says that this whip was made by Joe, although I don´t know if this particular bit of info is accurate. As far as I know an apprenticeship usually means several years of learning directly from a Master. I don´t know in whipmaking what would constitute an apprenticeship in terms of time spent acquiring skills. From what I have read, Joe spent time honing his technique and skills by working with Mr. Morgan, as have other whipmakers. Bernardo Del Carpio comes to mind...

That one at Ebay looks like Morgan's work, I believe it's his whip. Was it screen used? We have to wait for any certificate, but I think it was used by Antonio Banderas in the movie.

A bit odd that the auction description says "this style of whip" is clearly visible being worn on Zorro's belt?!?

The guys other items on auction seem to indicate that he deals in high priced collectible props. Check em out. I´m sure asking the the guy if he has a COA for the whip wouldn´t be a problem.

This same whip was sold though the Profiles in History movie memorabilia auction a couple weeks ago,
http://www.profilesinhistory.com/items/hollywood-memorabilia-auction-40/antonio-banderas-hero-“alejandro-murrieta”-bullwhip-from-the-mask-of-zorro.html
Though COA’s can easily be faked and often are, apparently this whip had credentials and was sold along with several other props & costume items from the Mask of Zorro film. It only received one bid though and sold for $2000. Apparently now the buyer is trying to resell it for $5,500 and make a bit of a profit.
David Morgan supplied several of these #450 series bullwhips in black to the Mask of Zorro production, to me this looks like one of the bullwhips David made. I don't know if Joe Strain was visiting David around the time these whips where made, or if he had a hand in them (Maybe he can comment to clarify) but the information on the Bullwhip FAQ is somewhat exaggerated. Joe Strain was never really an "apprentice" to David, however; Joe did make whips for the Mask of Zorro film. These where whips made for Alex Green, the films stunt man & whip coach and where the whips used by Anthony Hopkins in for the candle-snuffing scene. They where a longer handle whip with a silver ring fitted on the handle, a forerunner to the Official Zorro whips Western Stage Props sells now.
This is one of those whips Joe Strain made for the Mask of Zorro that was used in those scenes. This whip was owned by Paul Nolan and the credit for the photo goes to him, but the whip has since been sold. At least one of Joe Strains Indy style bullwhips (currently owned by Gery Deer) also made it into the Mask of Zorro production. It was a 6ft bullwhip purchased from Mark Allen at Western Stage Props. It also has the 7 x 6 Two-Pass turkshead knot (rather then the 5 x 4 three-Pass turkshead knot seen on David’s bullwhips) and is distinctively Joe's work.

That is one "Beefy" whip to say the least. Such a difference between that one and my 07 model.

i noticed that this seller is using the same pics and a word for word discription as what was used on the profiles in history auction site
so i asked for pics of the whip in hand to prove that this is legit
we will have to wait to see what happens
