I'm surprised you didn't find 100's of posts. While I don't have a WPG bag, I'd have to say I do not like them from the pics I've seen of them. Just my opinion. I'd get the real thing. Talk to Swindiana. He's your bag-man, and no, he's not a killer. At least I hope not.

Indy1936, I own both a WPG Mk. VII and an original Mk. VII. The WPG is a good replica of the original. Ther are a few differences, but not enough to matter. You won't go wrong getting one, particularly if you replace the strap with one from Lee Keppler, or have one made.

The WPG is a great replica, maybe the best or only well ever see. The strap isnt very accurate though, the strap, and buckle color are off. And Jerry at WPG is a great guy, excellent service!

Never owned one before, but I've heard nothing but great reviews about them. These are excellent bags, save for the fact that they have one of the most inaccurate straps ever. -IJ

Well, at least they're more accurate than a real MKVII strap
anyway, I can comment on the WPG bag. But I havent' seen the real deal so i can't really make a comparison. But, the WPG is awesome looking

I love my wpg bag...
now (don't
love the strap but it does its job).
However, when i first got it, the rings were sewn on so poorly that after just one day of wearing it with minimal cargo (LC VHS tape - thats it!) they almost completely came unstitched. I have since resewn them and it looks and functions great - i can now pack it full of very heavy books with no problems to anything besides my back
. All-in-all, i would recommend getting a wpg as I've never heard of any other problems like mine and i have to say that its a pretty good buy for the dough, especially if you can stomach the strap. Hope this helps.

I can speak from direct experience with WPG bags and the real deals. I have 5 MKVII's, 2 MKVI's and 4 WPG's. All of them have the Keppler leather straps. The MKVI's even have the correct dark leather color strap that Lee sells for TOD with the "roller" type buckle (you TOD guys should know this).
The WPG bag is amazing in that this was the release 1.0 version of the MKVII copy commissioned by Jerry over at "What Price Glory". I bought one and was very impressed with it. It costs $39.95 with or without the strap. In my opinion, the strap goes and gets replaced with a Keppler. The strap color is too orange and it's glossy. I have tried everything on it, short of sandpaper to change the color but it didn't work. I guess you can try leather dye. The buckle is also wrong, it's brass not chrome. I hear some people sandpapered the buckle to bring out the steel color. But like I said, I gladly got a Keppler and solved that issue.
The WPG bags that I have (over a year and a half for my oldest one), are very sturdy. They can take a beating. Don't let the pristine nature of the picture at the site fool you. If you use it every day, it will quickly get that worn, vintage look.
I highly recommend the WPG bag due to the reasons above and in addition you can always get them.
A little side story. Jerry at WPG used to sell the MKVII and MKVI bags. He would get constant calls from us fans asking if he had any in stock. He was getting to be known as really grumpy with us (much like Harrison Ford is now) because he never managed to have enough bags to satisfy us fans. All of a sudden he announced in the Spring of 2002 he was selling the repro MKVII's. So I bought one right around that time, not expecting very much. And it was really impressive given that this was his first attempt to replicate an old bag.
By September 2002, I buy 3 more. I give Jerry a call and tell him how good a job he did with these bags and whether he regretted doing it. His answer: "No regrets at all." Why's that? "I got sick and tired of telling you Indygear guys I had no bags to sell. I came up with the idea to do a repro. Well I sold 500 bags in the first 8 months and just placed another order for 500 more".
Do the math guys, do the math. Yes, he's got expenses in material and labor, but there is at least at least 50% margin. Do the math.

I ordered mine last Sunday, so hopefully it'll arrive this week.
I got it off eBay, so it's my first time seeing WPG's website. Funny stuff...
Bag and Strap=$38, Bag and free strap=$38, strap and free bag=$38

I own a WPG bag and love it.
The construction is excellent and it is a very close replica of the mark VII.
My only complaint is the strap - whilst functional, it is the wrong colour, the buckle is also the wrong colour and in order to wear the bag indy-style, you have to lengthen the strap taking the buckle down to a non-indy position near to the hip.
I am, suffice to say, getting a new strap (making it myself).
But I recommend 'buy the bag', it's a good bit of kit.
Regards,
Alan

I also have a couple original and the WPG repro. It's great. Being a repro, I'm not afraid to take it out as a daily "man" bag, or hiking, whatever. Since the originals are getting pricier and rarer, my original bags are regulated to offical summits, events, CONs, etc. The repro is for everything else.
thanks

You have made a wise discision, the WPG bag is by far the best you can get, and the most accurate of all (if not the only) reproduction.
A WPG bag and a Lee Keppler strap and you've got an instant winner! Wear your new bag in good health!

Ya hear that, Indiana? Sounds like you're gonna have to burn that unissued MKVII you got. Oh well.
