I just had a seat in my recliner, ready to watch some SEC football, when I noticed that my wife had put a new Fall Cabela's catalog on my lampstand. I thumbed through it to see what was new, and immediately found an Indy style jacket, labeled Adventurer jacket. It shows the model wearing a Akubra style hat with it. It never ceases to amaze me at how after so many years, you still see Indy related stuff being sold. The jacket certainly looks like an Indy jacket for the untrained eye. Even has the adustment straps on the sides. Anyway, just thought I would tell ya Indy and alive and well, and continues to influence style. regards, Fedora

Hey I saw that too when I first received it... I was thinking that perhaps the Indy Gear forum has gotten thru to the execs at Cabela, considering so many of us bought their tan shirt (that shirt is on backorder). It does look like an Indy jacket, even down to the pockets I believe.

Yep, that is it. Not a bad looking jacket, although, I noticed right off how the leather cuffs were made. I bet they sell a few. And as usual, I am behind the curve. I guess I should check before I make my posts.

Is it just me or are all the jackets that all these companies are selling now look more and more like Indy jackets?? For instance, look at this one that LL Bean is offering in their new catalog:

L.L.Bean has been offering their version of the A-2, or what
they call their "Flying Tigers" jacket for many, many years now. They
have one with and one without a heavier lining in it. They have
also offered it in both a "Weathered" and a regular finish.
Its not new, and its based on a WWII style A-2 jacket, not
an Indy jacket.

Flathead, thanks for the info. Really helps out as a history lesson to me. I have seen the A-2 jacket mentioned over and over but I didn't know what it was. Now I understand. So is possible that the Indy jacket was modeled after the A-2? Thanks!

If you go back in the postings here, I think (and I may be wrong) the Indy jacket was a combo of an A-2 and a James Dean Jacket. And a few tweaks here and there by Harrison and the gang.

I personally think that the G-1 had some influence on the Indy jacket as well. They looked at flight jackets first before deciding that they needed an original jacket. Neither the A-2 or the James Dean jacket had a pleated back or underarm gussets as the G-1 does. Cheers

I realize that you may not be able to make the Texas summit at the Dallas ComiCon in October, but, if you do, I will have my original, issued A-2 with me. Those with Indy jackets of whatever type who can attend can make a comparison with my A-2.
