Indy Raiders jacket advice please

Hi there folks,

This is my first post on the awesome COW site. So hello fellow Indy fans. It's good to be amongst folk who appreciate Indy as much as I do. I took a few beatings and insults as a kid cos I dressed up as Indy for a school history trip. Well it seemed appropriate to me, being a history trip and all!

Anyway my reason for posting is because like most you I have for a long time desired an actual, proper Indiana Jones jacket. After many years of not being able to justify buying one financially, I bit the bullet and ordered a Wested off the rack raiders 80s style washed goatskin. I absolutely love it, there was a profound moment when I got home from work to find it all wrapped up laying on my bed. When I opened it I was awestruck at how amazing it was. It was something I will never forget, opening up the wrapping and putting it on for the first time. Wested did a great job the colour was just right the texture of the leather was right, the style was right. Only problem is I'm not so sure if the fit is right. I could really use some advice on how you guys think the jacket should fit, not becuase it was made wrong but because I think I may have ordered the wrong size.

I am a medium size for practically every item of clothing I own. I have broad shoulders though, but medium is usually spot on. I am 5 foot 8 inches tall and I wear a size 32 waist trousers. I ordered a 42 regular jacket thinking it is the equivalent of a medium. Is that the case because if anything the jacket seems to have a lot of extra room in the front and the back panel seems really big too and kind of sticks out a bit instead of going straight down. The sleeves and length are I think spot on, it's just the area round the chest I think may be too big. I love my jacket but I always thought Indy's jacket seemed more fitted and tighter than mine. My friends and family all say that they think it's a great fit, but I know it's not quite right. I have time to send it back and I'm not sure whether I should. I suspect a size 40 will fit me better. Whats your thoughts guys. Is a 42 generally a large size and a 40 a medium or are both medium sizes?

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Colin

Sounds to me like you're a size 40R. That usually is equivalent to a medium-large, favouring the medium. I've tried on the 40R and 42R Westeds and there is a noticeable difference.

Of course, you could always show us pics.

Thanks for that St. Dumas do you think a 38 would be better then? As I reckon I am just a plain medium. I really wish I had the time to drive down to wested and try them on, but its a 7 and a half hour trip as I live in Scotland.

I can't be bothered with the hastle of having to wait all over again cos I was counting the days til it came, but I will send it back. I'm just about to head out but I will post some pictures when I get back.

Thanks

i typically wear 42 jackets (42 short), and wear 34 jeans (36" actual waist). wested's 42 fits me well and there 44 gives me room for more than just a shirt underneath. it sounds like you want to drop down to a 40 if you want to wear the jacket as ford did in the films. by most shirts, i am a large, if they have a tailored cut. regular shirts, i can pull off a medium. hope that helps.

Thanks Indiana G. I appreciate your advice a 40 R sounds about right. I am concerned that I am messing the people at Wested about by sending it back, but on the other hand I have spent a lot of money and I want my jacket to be right. So I will be sending it back. Do you know if I have to pay a delivery charge from wested again?

I have a couple of pictures for you to tell me what you think. Not sure how to add them though,as soon as i figure it out I will add them.

Thanks Indiana Holt. I think I got photobucket setup. I posted a side view, back, view, zipped up view and unzipped view.

If you guys could have a look and tell me your honest thoughts. I don;t mind if you are brutally honest I would rather know if its too big.

actually.....that is a good fit on you. looks good in the shoulders, chest and sleeves as far as i can see. if you're looking to get it more per how ford wore it, you probably need to get a custom one and shorten the length imo.

as far as a well fitting jacket goes, i think you already have it :)

i reread your first post....and i too have a OTR washed goat in a 42. i'm a short size so i had to cut the sleeves down....but found the length in the body too long for SA. great leather however.

Yeah - I agree. I wouldn't be messing with it. Looks good on you, and once it breaks in it'll begin to develop the look I think you're after.

G's right - you're not going to get a better outcome unless you go custom and manage to luck out on the right measurements & specs combo.

Yep. I agree too. It looks good on you. Just wear it as much as you can and you will see how nicely it molds to your body.

I'd say keep it. It looks like it fits you. Any smaller and you might not be able to get it on, or move in it if you do.

Wow I appreciate all your advice. I think maybe I would be better keeping it now. I was concerned that it was too loose round the front, but as I said I was happy with it every other way. I have a few more pictures to post for you guys , so I will try and get them up for this afternoon.

If anyone knows what it is supposed to be like you guys will, so your opinions hold a lot weight with me. I Love my jacket so much I am trying to resist the temptation to order a shirt to match.

Thanks guys :H:

Check it out guys. I hope its my jacket in a more action pose type of thing ha ha. Again thanks for all your advice guys, I'm enjoying my jacket much better now. Sometimes all it takes is someone to give you a bit encouragement to give you that extra bit of confidence.
