So I know that in Raiders we had lots of gear including many that were never seen again. the red and grey notebook, the gloves, sandbag (although he did leave that behind but maybe bought another one) and his pocket knife. Not to mention the brush (forgive if I forgot anything).

So I would like to think that Indy had these on him during LC but just never had the chance or reason to use them (although he obviously had no knife in CS)

Anyone else of this opinion? i figure the man has to have SOMETHING stuffed into that mk VII!! (although again, obviously in CS he didn't as it was flat as can be for the whole movie)

I think he carried stuff with him, but the Russians emptied it in CS, bot times he was caught. That or he had just a few small items in there. Mine currently has just a few things in it and looks flat a lot like the one in CS. Also, the Russians may explain why his knife was missing- he hasdn't replaced it yet, though this seems weird since he replaced his gun! Maybe he was just trying to make Mutt feel good, make him feel like he had something to add, especially after giving him a hard time about bringing a knife to a gun fight. I saw his comment to Mutt in the tomb about "You don't happen to have a knife on you, do you?" as sort of a joke between them.
I don't think the sandbag was an ongoing thing. He took it out of the backpack at the beginning of Raiders and then put it in his bag. I think he knew something of how the mechanism at the end worked, or knew that this tribe was known to have used that kind of technology, so he brought it along just in case it might be needed.

I noticed in LC that Indy started getting in the habit of carrying things in his pockets rather than the bag. Still, he probably kept a notebook and pencil in there, even in CS. I think the bag became more of an item for carrying things of little to no value, as it was the easiest thing to lose. Plus, you never know when you'll need a place to stick three Sankara stones. Pockets simply won't do!

I can buy that, Chewie. I mean, (now this is provided that Indy carried like items in previous speculation threads, i.e. "What's Indy Got in His MK VII?") a compass can be replaced, the small brush (Map Room) he could probably find anywhere. Ammo would be a bummer to lose, however, as would losing a canteen. Again, this is assuming that Indy carried those items in his bag all the time in the first place.




PS: Chewie, my memory is a little hazy (much like the current weather here ), could you point out what Indy carried in his pockets in LC? The only thing I can think of is the diary in which I wouldn't blame him for keeping it ON him, then again look how good THAT worked out for him

He kept the lighter in his left jacket pocket!! Which to me....with as much running around as he does...would easily fall out and get lost. But, it worked out in the end for him!

I agree that at least I would have lost that lighter somewhere between getting out of the car ("Don't know...think of sumthin'.") and smashing through the window ("This is kid in play, I'll be right back")

Yep. The lighter and the diary, which are Indy's main "tools" in LC. I don't thing he used the bag for anything the entire film.

Well, technically, the TANK used it!

He also used it to hold the Cross of Coronado at the beginning.
