dorfman + a few months in a sunlit window = new hat size?

I've got an old dorfman pacific fur felt Indy that I stole from my Dad about five years ago, after he beat it up camping, etc. I continued its life of abuse by (unintentionally) leaving it in a west-facing window for...well, a long, long time. Now it's a few shades lighter, but I was wondering: will prolonged exposure to sun and heat shrink a fur felt hat? I sort of hope so, since it's a large (around 59cm, I'm guessing) and probably would fit me if it shrunk another cm or two.

It should, but not in the way you hope probably. Most hats have a tendency to revert back to the cone shape they started out as. so besides shrinking, I think it will deform as well.

It most definately can, if it has the right (or wrong, depending on how you think about it) felt. Felt with a lot of air in it, that isn't dense, will shrink up with heat and humidity. Leave a wool hat in a car during summer time and see how it shrinks. Same can happen with poor quality rabbit fur felt.

You might find this interesting. I had a baseball cap that I had left in the back of my car for the last 2 years, and you can imagine the sun/heat exposure it got. When I finally pulled it out to try it on just the other day, I could swear it must have shrunk a size or two... Looks like fur isn't the only one susceptible to shrinkage! (insert bad pun here)
And no, I don't think my head has swelled recently either!
