Just got in yesterday my replica prewar S+W grips for my Stenbridge Indy gun.
Anyone know what I need to darken them?

You may want to google linseed oil; it's commonly used to protect wood on firearms. A few years ago, my brother bought an AK and wanted to darken the blonde furniture it came with. After a couple applications of linseed oil, it looked like a vet.
Hope this helps

Thanks I'll give that a try.

I've heard the linseed oil is great as well.
Alternatively, you could take a page out of the Michaelson school of distressing, and just go shooting with it for 500 days in a row, 22 hours a day or so, until the oil from your skin naturally darkens it in to a healthy walnut color.

Very nice grips! Where did you find them? Who made them?

They were made by Keith Brown. He makes the best handmade custom carved grips on the market.

And as a note from another S&W fan, they're called stocks, grips go on an auto!
Beautiful repo stocks, I must say!!!

All I have to say about that is they are expensive.
They are not something you can get for $25. I would have gone vintage, but try finding them. This was the next BEST alternative.

Yeah, they're pricey, but they sure are purdy! - nice pickup, sithspawn.

Hmmm...I don't know about that. I'd say that's some bad information. S&W's website lists their full collection of grips for both revolver and auto.

Well, maybe it's an old term, the language tends to change to what is common usage. If you spend any time on the S&W forum you'll quickly see "stocks" is the preferred term for the S&W revolver crowd. I guess it's much like calling the crease in your hat a "bash", fully understood, but not correct in the industry.

You know, I've never been afraid of eating crow, and I guess I'll have another helping. You know, the more you eat, the more you realize it tastes good - just like chicken! Bak, you were right. Sorry to call you out. Never heard that before. After a little searching, I've seen "stocks" thrown about quite a bit, and not on S&W forums either...
In my defense: S&W calls them grips and they make the revolver, so...
