Yep, it's a Dorfman, and based on the picture and comparing it with various Dorfman product descriptions, it looks like the wool version. If you are after an everyday hat to wear, you will do better to find a fur felt option, as the wool will not hold up to the elements as well as rabbit or beaver felt will.

You guys are MEAN!! Come on!!! Seriously, I can't sit by and watch you NOT warn this guy about this hat, so I'll do it.

Gaucho, if you want a hat that looks just like INdy's hat, do NOT buy that. The Dorfman Pacific is NOT a real hat, it is a costume hat, and you will be disappointed just like every other gearhead who has ever bought one (with the exception of maybe 2 guys who will pop on here and tell you it is an ok hat.)

The Dorfman Pacific Indy hat is a joke. You will be very disappointed in it. It is not even a replica of Indy's hat. There are many threads about this on here. Save your money.

Can I get an AMEN from guys who aren't trying to be PC about the DP and will tell it like it is to new guys so that they don't by the wrong stupid hat?? I thought we were supposed to be able to look out for each other.

On the contrary, I wasn't mean, only factual. Reread my post again, maboot. ;) Besides, there's enough on most any hat offering within these forums for folks to read. It's called "homework." ;)

BUSTED!!! Ladies and Gentlemen, maboot is still in intensive therapy. Every time he hears or sees the word Dorfman he starts swearing, foams at the mouth, and generally goes berserk. We're working on getting him to a point where he can express his opinions after having read the full sentence, just in case someone has already agreed with him, be it in a more polite manner or otherwise. ;)

Dorfman Pacific makes me see red. Every time I see that stupid IndianaJones pin on the side of the hat, I die a little inside.

Alright!!! THATS IT!!!!! I've heard and said Dorfman too many times today!!! I'm going postal!!

no wait, maybe I wrote it the wrong way or you got me wrong, but what I was trying to say is that the DP looks quite nice in that photo, while in reality it is awful as famine; in other words, the photo doesn't match the real deal.

Probably just me reading your post incorrectly again! Wow, I really need to take a day off.

You're right though, it looks decent in the photo, but it still looks incorrect for a hat. I guess Gaucho could specify exactly what he's looking for in a hat, but then again, reading the fedora section of this forum for 30 minutes will provide him a vast array of information.

Oh, and Dorfman Pacific hats? Well, they are not a great copy of the actual film hats, to say the least, but apart from the cautions concerning durability I'd say: if you like it, just buy it. No matter what anyone thinks.

I do concede that there are better choices for an Indy hat though (like Todd's hats or the Akubra FedIV to name some of the least expensive ones) but they will cost you more than a wool DP ;)

Six months ago, I thought about buying a Dorfman Pacific "Indiana Jones fedora," but then I discovered Akubra, and their Federation IV. It's reasonably priced, I think, but the shipping can make it pretty expensive, if you consider $140 to be expensive like I do, that is. The thing with Dorfman Pacific, is that they aren't a quality brand, and they aren't even accurate. Oh, and take a look at this, these are all Dorfman Pacific's I think, and they all claim to be "Indiana Jones hats." The fact of the matter is, they all look different, and maybe only one or two remotely resemble anything Harrison Ford wore in the films.

http://www.bagsbuy.com/indiana-jones.htm

10 different kinds, wow... that's ironic. Only two of them are actually fur felt.

I can't count the number of times I almost purchased that exact hat off of ebay prior to discovering the forums of club obi-wan. Even my annual trips to Disney world and visiting the Indiana Jones gift shop revealed nothing but hats of poor quality and poor selection. Since my "COW re-education," I now am the proud owner of a Federation IV and have never been happier with my purchase! I now have 2 adventurebilts on order. Hopefully this time next year I'll have 'em! [-o<

In ebay's defense, I have bid on and won several non-Indy vintage hats that I have been very happy with. It's still a bit of a crapshoot as to what you'll actually get and if the hat will really fit. But I've been happy with my purchases, and it didn't break the bank. Got 2 Dobbs that fit, (and 2 that didn't; just auctioned them again), and a Cavanagh that is juuuust a skosh big, but wearable.

The DP Indy hat has a good place in Indy gear collecting! :Plymouth: Is it a hat that most of us would call SA or purchase, NO it isn't.

However, try convincing your wife, husband, or signifanct other, that your son/daughter age 6- 13 needs a "somewhat" SA accurate hat that will cost at minimum $150.00 USD and they may outgrow this hat in a year. That boat won't float in this house.

We have two DP's in this house and both now belong to my six year old son, one came as a free gift with jacket purchase, the other was my first Indy hat purchased through the Star Wars fan club in the early '90's. The pins from both hats rest in my wife's jewerly chest.

Scot2525 is absolutely right. DP's are a perfect hat for kids. A starter hat! Re-examining my previous post about Disney, Disney is for kids! The hats available at Disney are meant for them! (Just call me a kid at heart. I LOVE Disney World!) MGM Studio is were I got this hat years ago:Image
If that image is enough to make your head explode from the complete & total lack of screen accuracy, what is really going to send you over the edge is how when I wore this hat at the parks people were constantly coming up to me asking where I got it and how awesome it looked compared to what is available at the gift shops. (and yes, it is made of leather, and yes it those are holes with metal studs and... Oh, yeesh I could start a whole thread souly devoted to attacking its screen accuracy.) But I still love it anyway. It was the definition of a starter hat, relatively cheap and good enough. Sometimes good enough is all you need.

Well put, hulkamad! While the Dorfman is far from the ideal Indy hat for all of us but maboot (who secretly owns hundreds of these and wants to own them all :P ) it does have a place in the market. While not a true Indy hat, Fedora would be the first to say that he's glad to see anyone wear a brimmed hat regardless of the make and whether or not it's an Indy-styled fedora. (And yes, that goes even for DP!) For the regular joe who wants to wear a hat one time at a party for a basic Indy, the Dorfman is cheap and perfect. For kids who want an Indy hat, and whose parents cant justify spending a lot of money, the Dorfman is perfect. For some average person who is not a hat aficionado, the Dorfman will work fine. For the die-hard Indy fan, the Dorfman is... not so much a good thing.

I'm actually attempting to do something like this, but instead of colored balls, I want to use Dorfman Pacific Indy Fedoras.

Well so far Gaucho hasn't responded, so we don't know whether he's talking about the Wool DP or the felt DP.

If it is the wool, it is $40ish, which explains the attraction when compared to prices for real hats from Steve, Marc, John, etc.

I bought a wool one in MGM when I was a kid, after coming out of the stunt show I HAD to have one.
I wore it round Dinsneyworld for a week and then it spent more than 15 years in the top of a dark cupboard.
Now my kids play with it :)

The only good thing I can say about it is it's real tough ](*,) it has to be in my house!

EDIT:
I've just been thinking this over and I got this hat on a much more recent trip, less than 10 years ago.

The Fed IV is the hat that I use for my Indy hat, had it about 2 years now, but I am also pretty sure I cannot find a Fed IV that would be small enough for my son.

You never know. Drop HatsDirect a line and give them your son's head measurement. Sometimes they have a lot of really small sizes that never sell sitting in backstock. You could be pleasantly suprirsed.

I'll keep that in mind Michaelson, for the future.
However still at his current age of 6 1/2, $108.00 plus shipping the current rate for a standard Fed IV, is still to much for this family for an Indy hat for him. I don't want to come off as sounding cheap as that is not the case just trying to be practical as he does wear and play in his current gear quite a bit. His US Wings Lil' Indy jacket has been a great investment as it has gotten a ton of play wear as well as everyday wear and he is still growing into the jacket. The hats only get worn when he is "playing" as Indy.

If you want an Indy hat then I agree, DP isn't the way to go.

If you just want a cheap fedora though I can say that I'm still happy with mine in that regard. Makes me feel spiffy and to the uneducated masses they still think I'm Indy. ;)

I'm off to Venice in a week and I'll be bringing my hat and grail diary so when I post pics of me at Campo San Barnaba hopefully everyone can keep zipped about my DP hat. [-o<
