Help distressing Fbi 38 airsoft gun?

I just picked up the last Fbi 38 Gas Airsoft Revolver in stock at
http://www.kapowwe.com/fbi-38-gas-revolver.html. I have been searching on COW for this topic and only seem to find one thread discussing this.
I would like to do some light distressing once I get it. I know its made out of resin so I am wondering how I would go about wearing out the contours of the gun so it does not show the resin under the surface paint.
I am not sure if you can remove the orange tip or not without breaking anything, I have seen a few without the tip so I'm guessing you can?
Also any other modifications to make it a bit more SA will be greatly helpful.

This is one thread regarding the same pistol you have. The orange plug on the barrell pops right off with a screwdriver or a pair of pliers. The contour grip is easily removable by unscrewing the grips and the contour part pops right off. The weathering I did was with a silver paint pen like the one in the above mentioned thread. I have seen a few that did a complete repaint with several types of paint that really looked fantastic.
Here is another.

Thanks scot2525,
I like your pen method, that way I don't have to worry about wearing down to the resin. I am still wondering about attaching ring on the grip, has anyone done this successfully?

I did it with mine. I used the two part hardening epoxy, super glue could also be used. Adding the swivel sling will make the gun unusable to fire as you cover up the hole to fill it with green gas.

Thanks for the pic, shes a beaut!
I'm guessing you can buy the paint pen at like Home Depot or Walmart?

Thanks for the compliment fuzzjunk. I picked my pens up at Wal-Mart, three pack including a gold and flat black pen, $5.00. It is made by Testors, any craft or hobby store should have them as well.
Really wish I could find images from one of the members who did a complete repaint as that thing was truly gorgeous. You can find several threads about these in the Gun and Holster forum on pages 5-7 between May '08- July '08 as this is when they seemed to gain some popularity around here. Look for threads with air soft in the title.
Here is a photo of an air soft M92F made to look like a replica of Martin Riggs Lethal Weapon "hero" Beretta using the other pens that came with the pack.

I'm not big on the painting to look like scratches in bluing. Not knocking the practice, it just wasn't something I wanted to do.
In my experience, unless you really go deep into a gun's metal it doesn't really get "shiny", more of a gray. With time, the scratches dull too; "acquiring a patina" in gun parlance.
Unless it is something aluminum-based, like an M-16/M-4, or the M-9 pistol; those scratches and marks tend to stay like that.
However, I did have a big problem with the plastic magna-style grips and I set up a Flickr set showing the work I did to get them a bit more authentic.

Excellent mod on the grips, Mountaineer! I agree with you on the painted scratches. I have seen a couple of total repaints with this air soft that make it look extremely authentic.

Thanks Scot.
It was probably an afternoon's worth of work, but it really got the final-touch on the thing like I wanted.
I left the lanyard ring off because I may want to use it to actually fire one day.

Great info guys, thanks
I found this sling on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/M-1903A3-Springfiel ... 1e5b943e6a
Would this work since the screws would not be right in the middle of fill hole? I know it might not be the right size, and it wouldn't actually swivel.

Fuzz I don't think you can find a lanyard or swivel sling to attach to this model air soft gun that still allows you to shoot with it. Todd Coyle mentioned it in one of threads regarding this model and Mountaineer mentioned it in his previous post.
The sling you posted would likely be to wide for removeable attachment or re-attachment.

You know I've had that same gun for years and never knew that stupid grip could come off! You better believe it’s history now! Thanks everyone! I love this board!

Well the good news is the gun came in today.
But the bad news is that it is cracked.
I just sent an email with pics to kapowwe, I hope they can just give me a partial refund, because this is the last one and I would like to keep it.

That is a bummer fj!
Where is the gun cracked at?
Could you post the pics you sent to kapowwe for us to get a look at the damage? It could be a blessing in disguise as it already has some "weathering" to it.

Here's the damage, its a good size crack.
They have already filled a claim with fedex. They said I should get refunded in 3-5days. If all goes right I will have a free gun to keep.

I had that problem, twice, when purchasing The Thompson "Chicago Typewriter". First problem, the stock would not attach to the frame, so it was sent back. The second one arrived with a badly cracked barrel. Sad, because it was very realistic, now they are no longer made. There is another version out now, but the bolt is placed on the side instead of on the top, as the real one had. Airsoft-Gun-Sale.com has this FBI .38 Model for $58.99, a lot of other sites are out of stock. I just have to add this to my "Wish List" for now...

A little JB Weld, some sanding and painting, and that crack might disappear.
Or really good epoxy.
Either way a good "project without risk of destrution" toy.

It seems like a pretty solid air soft gun too, I was surprised to see a crack like that from the shipping.

I just went to that site now and it looks like there out of stock as well. I'm wondering if they just stopped making that model gun.
