Question on length
Hey,
Quick question. How far is the LC jacket supposed to extend below the belt? From the photos I've seen, I just can't judge it.

Re: Question on length
Close to 2" were added to the length....if I remember correctly.
Holt? Is that right?

Re: Question on length
Your belt or Indy's belt?
Re: Question on length
the original was 26'' backlength.

Re: Question on length
The original length doesn't mean much unless you are the same size. I'd go for a jacket that hangs a strong 2 inches over your belt. Depending on your build (if you're big) you may need more. My Raiders is 3 inches over my belt which may not be SA, but I prefer it this way.

Re: Question on length
It's also important to get the sleeve-body ratio correct, if you want the jacket to look Indy-ish. Short sleeves on a long body just don't look right in my opinion.
That's what puts me off buying a US Wings jacket; they seem very long in the body with only shortish sleeves...

The last scene, when he is using the diary to get in, the jacket extended to the top of the pocket flaps.

Re: Question on length
That's odd, Kevin....maybe I just have a long torso, but I always felt that the Wings jacket gave off a REALLY close LC look for me....
But, maybe it's just me!

Re: Question on length
I did say 'seem'! I don't actually own a US Wings jacket yet, I'm just going on pics of them I've seen posted here. I think I read even a medium USW jacket has a
back length of 27 inches? That seems long to me, and the pics show it. Beautiful jackets otherwise. I will probably grab a lamb jacket from them when the new
cheaper range is available.

Re: Question on length
I hear ya...
Only speaking from personal experience, the Wings jackets I've owned have been some of my favorites...the only thing I've very OWNED or SEEN in person comparable would be the Expedition jackets.
27" does seem a little long...I don't remember mine being that long....
but, again...on ME, they seemed fine...and I'm 5'11", 150,...
Perhaps with a long torso, though...interesting! I'd like to hear your thoughts on the fit AFTER owning one. They're great jackets.

Re: Question on length
That is a good question. If you go to the LC section of the jackets over at IndyGear the first pic makes the jacket look rather long, but the 5th one down it looks much shorter, I know there was more than one jacket, but were there more than one length, or is it just the way he's standing?Ronski wrote:Hey,

Re: Question on length
More than likely it's just the way he's standing. I mean, I can make my Aero A-2 fit "longer" by slouching a little....so, any discrepancy you see is probably due to changes in posture.

gotcha
Re: Question on length
In that photo HF is leaning forwards. The looks 2 inches shorter than it is. Screen caps are an impossible way to establish length since many of the shots make it appear that the jacket is long or short, depending on the angle and the stance of the actor.
Watch LC again and decide what would work for you.

Re: Question on length
Thanks, Michael. There are other screen stills that will back it up, like once he is just past the steps and before he enters the "neel" test.
Re: Question on length
Your points are very well made, Michael. And I think you are the perfect example of a jacket fan. You got made what you saw and what you wanted. How could it get better than that? Your jacket is one of the best I've ever seen.
I do remember a lengthy debate here about the Raiders jacket length, which included photos pointing to various lengths, depending on how HF was standing. It was all good fun.

Re: Question on length
the thing is whatever the length of the movie jacket was, will not necessarily be the optimum length for every body.
The jacket may need to be made longer or shorter to end in the same spot on a person's body.

Re: Question on length
Optimal jacket length depends on who you are and what you see, and what you liked best about what you see, individualism. Some will want to stay with exactly what they have seen on film, while some will choose the jacket length they are most comfortable with, just depends.
Not too long ago, the prevailing thought was that the LC jacket was maybe a few inches longer than the Raiders jacket. 2" below the belt is a comforable length, while others opt for a 'biker jacket'. Other criteria that possibly could be considered, especially with the Raiders jacket is the fact that different jackets were used in various scenes, different makers also.
