I never posted pictures of my first ever Wested jacket that I received on December 26, 2008. Unfortunetly, it doesn't get cold down here much, so it hasn't had much wear Well here it is folks! Let me know what you think.

Almost looks like a Todd's standard jacket! Good looking jacket. What kind of leather is it, lamb is my guess? Looks very small for you in the sleeves and a little small in the body though. Is it an OTR ROLA special?

Fill me in Holt, trying to get better at identifying jackets. I see that it could be possible that the yoke seam may be higher than the arm seam, no leather facings and smaller nickel zip, but other than yoke/arm seam allignment the other features could be standard. Send me a pm as to not derail Indy89's thread.

Indy89 also looks like you could loosen the straps a little bit.

Scot- It's a custom in goatskin. It may look small but it's a good fit for me. I like my clothing to be fitted.

thats why the straps looked so stiff. lambskin straps would be all limp after 1 year of use.

Looks to be a good fit and all of the major specs seem to be on as well. Great jacket!

I guess the title is a little misleading. I went ahead and changed it.

You wear that jacket well. How do you feel it fits? Your jacket is slightly shorter than mine in both sleeves and body.
Curious because I can barely stand the length anymore. I'd like to have it slightly longer. I find it difficult to wear any clothing that doesn't tuck into my pants, otherwise the clothing goes beyond (quite a bit) the jacket and looks real goofy.

Well with that jacket you are meant to wear it over a tucked in shirt

Whipdude- I guess it's more of a personal preference. Most of my shirts aren't very long in lenth, so I always wear them untucked, and I haven't looked goofy... yet

I've probably given people the idea that I wear shirts 2 sizes larger than necessary.

I haven't tucked a shirt into my pants for 22 years. You can still wear a short leather jacket that way, just look at Dr House in his Vanson... I think Indy 89's jacket looks good but to my taste it is about 3 inches too short. It has a short bike jacket feel to it, which may be how he likes it.

And it is I have a US Wings vintage cowhide Indy jacket, and IMO, is way too long. I don't like the way long jackets look on me. I prefer a more fitted jacket.

Your jacket is just about identical to my horsehide, execpt mine is a little slimmer in the body and doesn't have as much taper in the back panel. I think my cuffs might be slightly more tapered, too, but not by much. My cuffs also end at the first knuckle of my thumb.

I think the short look is good for younger, slimmer guys. I'm even a little chunky, but I have broad shoulders, so I can pull off the look.

I think this particular look gives the jacket a whole different feel and I think Wested has the ability to pull it off pretty nicely, from time-to-time, judging by what I've seen in pictures here. Sure, it's not SA, but again, it's my opinion that the look has a totally different spirit (e.g., that biker jacket feel).

I, too, wear shorter shirts and this jacket works perfect. I actually think it's a better look than tucking your shirt in, as the short, slim jacket sort of has a more youtful feel to it and, by tucking in the shirt with it, I come off feeling like my dad, who is about sixty and sports a similar style (e.g., jeans, tucked-in polo shirt, and short leather jacket).

I've got a longer Indy jacket, too, and it's bigger on me as well. It wasn't the look I was originally going for, either. It's all just a matter of personal taste.

Well said Dr. Evil! That's the wording I was looking for. I am fairly young and am not big on tucking in my shirts.

That's a nice jacket. It's amazing how leather looks better the older it gets and when it is broken in. I also have a custom goat, tough leather. The most important thing is did you get what you wanted? Looks like a keeper.

Yup! This jacket has every spec I asked for. I'm hoping it'll get some wear this weekend. It's supposed to be raining a lot.

What might be a little deceiving on the jacket length is your jeans. They almost look to be low-rise or are you wearing them low? Where the belt line is in relation to the bottom edge of the jacket makes a difference in how long the jacket appears.

I'd love to see your jacket with some Indy gear if you have it. I noticed a Fedora and whip in your photos...

Yeah if you look in the Adventurebilt thread, his jacket looks longer, and just right (although I agree it could be longer)! Of course, you can't see where the jacket ends (sleeves or body), but the proportions look great. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=12649&start=1500 This is seriously one of my favourite Westeds I've seen. Great colour, perfect demon roll, nice yoke seam placement, nice and light looking leather, and beautiful zipper.

Goat may be the most under-rated hide? From the photos, the leather looks thinner, and this one "looks" more like lamb to me, even though it is goat, but then again, it is difficult to tell with inside lighting. The "biker cut" gives it an interesting new flare.

Indy89, did you do anything to the jacket, any predistressing or water treatment?

Thanks, Michael Yeah I'm wearing my jeans just below my hip bone, so that does make the jacket appear shorter. I plan on taking some gear photos! Hopefully I'll have some up on Monday.

I only did water treatment as soon as I received it. I just put it in the shower for a bit and wore it right afterwards.

I agree w/ the comments on the collar, zip/facing, and yolk...those parts look nice.
W/ respect to the "biker" look however, the original rola had a more biker look...long sleeves to short torso ratio. If anything this has more of a dinner jacket look, going with a nice dress shirt showing off cufflinks and tie along w/ belt and nice pants. Or the daniel craig layer cake look.
Needs another 1-2 inches in the sleeves for the indy look, not sure on the torso until we see pants belted at proper waist. If you lift your arms those cuffs probably move way up the forearm.
Did you spec the pockets differently or did they come that way?
That is awesome you got the jacket exactly how you speced it, can't ask for more than that!

Looks good! My first Wested goat is nearly 6 years old now, but still in great shape even though I wear it most every day in the winter. Only problem is my arms have lengthened a bit since then and the sleeves are a bit short. I stopped by Wested back in January and had Peter measure me for a new one and it's waiting for me at home now, but I haven't been home since January so I haven't seen it yet! I'll finally be home next week so I can compare my new Wested goat to my 6 year old Wested goat.
