Does anyone else notice how much Young Indy's fedora looks just like the one Harrison is wearing in one of the publicity shots of him and Sean Connery? Is it possible that GL just used the same hat from the publicity shot to let SPF wear as Young Indy? The only real difference I see is a wider band, (which could have easily been changed by wardrobe dept.) and slightly different sides, which could very well have been due to handling and storage after LC wrapped.



Any thoughts?

I see the resemblance, and you may be right. At least tat one hat, anyway. But I suspect that not all YIJC hats were the same one.

That would be assuming that the two actors share the same hat size. Apart from the brim looking wider, I think the ribbon on the YIJ hat is a little wider, also. Now, I'd believe they were the same make and model used, but the hats themselves would be different.

Is it not also possible that wardrobe used that pic to bash the YIJ hat? I mean, around here we have guys who can look at some pictures and almost exactly reproduce any given hat. Couldn't the YIJ crew have done the same? Just some food for thought.

Well, to take some inspiration from Yojimbo Jones, heres the two superimposed at half opacity:



When the crows are adjusted, they blend in perfectly. The brim looks wider, but it COULD be because the LC brim has more of a curl. If Ford would have straigtened the brim, I think it could be the same size.

Very intriguing Knibs, and cool find! Even if it isn't the same hat, the bash in NEARLY identical. I would have to assume that was intentional.

I dont know. The YIJ hat brim has some serious curl on his left and its still wider than HF's. The crowns are amazingly similar, though.

maybe on that pic... but not in the show. the YIJ brim is always snapped down in the back where the LC curls are.

Look like the same block was used for both hats. Too identical for them not to be.

it might be the picture, but look at ford's bash... it looks kinda like it has some dents(like the ROTLA hat)
SPF's bash is smooth and no dents.

as i said, might be the picture.. (might be another felt?)

Good eye, Kyle! I think, at the least, they are the same block, just like Steve said. Pretty cool! If they did use the same hat, that should have been pretty inspiring to SPF!

Ya, chances are it's not the same hat, but I'd be willing to bet money that it was the same block

Where did you get the YIJ picture? If it is also a publicity shot it could have been intentional to bash the hat similar to LC to make a stronger connection between the two Indy franchises.

Well, my bet is that its the same block. We know that HJ produced the hats for YIJC and most people say that when they get an HJ today 2010 it looks similar to the Venice pier scene in LC.

Since YIJC were filmed in the early to mid 90's I'm betting its the same block or a very close one.

Now, if its the same hat.....that depends on the head size of course. Also, note on the side curls, a portion of that depends on the head shape. I can curl the sides of my brim all I want, but sadly it doesn't ever look like HF's hats because he has a long oval head and I have a round head. Take your hat and pull on it slightly front and back, the curls automatically appear.....not sure what SPF's head shape is, but I don't think its a long oval....

And yeah, they def. used different hats in YIJC....just like in the Indy flicks. His bash and brim sizes change throughout the series....sometimes in the same episode.
