THE Indy Bow Thread - Photo Evidence/Your Pics

Hey gang,

After looking and looking, I have come across many pages dedicated to bashes, brim size, crown height, ribbons, etc., but the one thing I haven't seen a lot are pages dedicated to the bow itself; in particular, its placement over the ear.

We have all worked on acheiving "the look" of the Fedora, and some of us have spent hours bending and shaping the hats to match various screen shots and particular scenes.

While we might perfect a look from some angles, I have always thought that a true measure of accuracy could be where the bow falls.

After looking through photos and photos, here is what I have come up with. Granted, this isn't an exact science as a slight tilt of the head can skew what we percieve as the profile.

Raiders:

Temple of Doom:

Last Crusade:

And my Henry:

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any good Crystal Skull profile shots on the Web.

Can some of the experts chime in about the Bow placement? Is it something that changes depending on who wears the hat? Are other people concerned about where it falls? Feel free to post your own Bows!

There is another variable. How well centered was the bow to start with, on the hat? I have seen HJs that I reblock for Indy Mag, with off center bows, that I have to correct before I send them out. So, that's a variable there, and a big one. I have bought many hats with off centered bows in my life. Most sat rearward. Fedora

If you turn your hat to get the brim effect your bow will move forward like you have posted. The thing is that not everyone will need to turn there hat the same amount.

Although, if you know how to do it yourself, you could re-attach the bow to be in the "right place" for a movie or scene after finding the right seating on your head.

I've often thought about getting an untunred hat with a turned bow to see how many people I could fool. But that's an expensive joke. :(
