Odd Question...

What do you folks do for items that have been so Worn or Distressed, they can't be used ever again...
Like Fedora's that don't fit or are so badly tapered they are a mockery of their former glory.
Or pants that really do look like you were dragged by a truck.
Or Jackets that are so far gone, the leather has been cracked and torn down to the lining...
What do you do or how do you retire these Items?

Buried at the the cemetary for old or broken Indy gear, better known as the landfill.

You can't just throw out stuff you waited forever to arrive via UPS or FED-EX!

Of the few items I've had that DID go the whole 9 yards (specifically old Temple of Doom Stetsons), I incinerated them, as I did not want to throw them away, and they were to far gone to be display pieces, and thought the burning of them equal to the 'honor' reserved for a worn out flag. A noble end. An odd answer for your odd question. Regards. Michaelson

Michaelson, I was thinking the same thing! I actually did that with a jacket while camping. That seemed fitting for me to burn the jacket in the great outdoors.
Seemed fitting

I have my old brown fedora which is somewhere near 12 years old. I would say it been through quite alot, but I don't think I could get rid of it. There's way too much sentimental value in that hat to get rid of it any way, including ceremonious hat burnings. Sure the color's more then 50% faded probably, the ribbon's dirty, it's dusty beyond belief, and there's a severe shrinkage, taper, and upward curl on the back side. I think the hat will still be around even after I get my Fed tomorrow or later in the mail.

I didn't incinerate my lightly....the two that I did away with were completely worn through, with holes through the front of the bash....to far gone for even a hat repair company to do anything with, so I had to put 'em down. I still have two others that are that bad, and I still don't have the heart to eliminate them, though they're well past it too. Regards. Michaelson

My first Indy fedora ( from Disney I suppose) was bought in 1994 and I sold it last summer to a friend of mine. For 20 euro's and 2 IceTea's. I have put in the Raiders bash for him and he's quite happy with it and wears it a lot.
My former fedora, the Brazilian one, is worn sometimes by my brother. It is a perfect fit for him. A size 60 as I have a size 59 on my Fed now.
My jacket is still good and if I get my new one I guess I will still wear it on night games in the forest and adventure stuff like that. I can do whatever I like with it and wear it till it falls apart in pieces.
I just can't throw gear away. I love those things too much ofcourse and about my two former fedora's. It has got two new owners now. So that is not really throwing something away, is it.
Oh well... guess that's that.
Kind regards
Doctor Jones

You brought back some fond memories... With those hats losing their shape, I thought I was doing something wrong!

I'm with you. I can look at a hat and just let the memories flow.

Did I mention the lyric's to my disney song... "It's a STRANGE world, After all?" I was 15 when I started this, I'm 32 now with no end insight. The only thing that changed is my maturity and the quality of my gear.

I had one that was so out of date (###'n 80's) and moth ridden that I had to burn all the evedence before I was booked by the
fashon police.

I got three old FurFelt Stetson's in the basement packed away, thinking someday I'll just have them re-blocked for whom ever would come over to ride horses with the three of us. Or what-ever.

Well I've actually purposely made some gear unwearable. I bought a cheap shirt and pants from Wal-Mart to make into the end of ToD outfit. I cut "whip" slashes in the back of the shirt, cut off the right skeeve, cut the elbow out of the left, made one eapulet to hang down on the left side, and cut the buttons off the front. on the pants, I had to iron out the crease, take the cuffs out of the pants and iron out that crease, and then I cut the left knee out. I also added some permanent "blood" stains to the shirt especially around the areas where the whip slashes are. The outfit looks very cool. I'll try and get some pics up sometime.
Oh and with the right sleeve that I cut off, I made a bandage for my right hand and added some fake blood to it for effect.

The end of ToD shirt, I wonder if they'll ever sell a extremely distressed version of it to look exactly like the one in the movie. Hehe, also don't forget about the hole in Indy's pants.

Hey, give me a shirt and I'll destress it for you by mowing the lawn with the wife cracking the whip telling me to move faster!
Hey... what a great way to get the lawn done and make a buck! Better your shirt then mine!

When do we go past strange and go into nuts and finally crazy mode? I guess we'll have to use Shorty to gauge our mental status to know.

Sell it on eBay and use the money to get newer, mo' better gear. Someone else can enjoy it. Personally, I have never brought anything to the point of unusability (is that a word?). Even with my "regular" clothes, when they seem "not as new and nice," I donate them to Goodwill or the Salvation Army.

Shoot 'em, then put them in the garbage can and throw bricks on top. Then call Stephen King. Gloves should not behave this way and maybe there is a book in it for him. Sell him on the idea of writing about your demon-possessed IndyGear items.
