Just won this on the bay looks to be nice example of an early 90's (ish) HJ, don't think it's a poet but should pull of a descent bogey lid if i change the ribbon.
Pics are far from great i'll get some on my noggin when I get it...what does everyone think of the "DP" on the sweat? I was thinkin Dorfman Pacific? But im Loving that crest

Would have to see more pics, but from what I've seen so far, it looks like it would pull off an awesome LC.

The seller said that the brim was just a hair over 2 1/2 inches...I am unfamiliar with the LC and Todd dimensions, would that be in the same ball park as a last crusade fedora? As well as that the ribbon is brown-ish and 2 inches wide? I will have more pics up when I get it.

Looks like a great example of the LC era HJ. Right before HJ went down the John, if I'm not mistaken. That sweat looks really comfy too! Nice find. How much did you score it for, if you don't mind my asking?

No probs £50 sterling, so that is about just under a $100...I had a 60's HJ Black, very wide brim and ribbon, beautiful felt and very well constructed hat despite needing some TLC, I only had it as a HJ example as it was to small for me. However...a family member used it as a prop in a play, without my permission, I recognised what was left of it while it was on stage. Ribbon removed, liner gone, and a western style brim...

Walking Eye and I both picked up vintage HJs from the same vendor on ebay and the construction on mine is top notch. Its from their first address, 38 Bond Street so its pretty old. Not sure how it compares to the one you just got. When you receive it, make sure to take pictures and definately one of you wearing it.

The older HJs all have that peculiar bow on the back of the sweat. Small rope looking ribbon with a fancy "tie job" done to it. You can use this to date the hats kinda sorta. All of the vintage HJs have the rope style bow in the back. You see see it on the other thread here fromthe guy who bought the thin ribbon HJ. I doubt any of these types were used in any of the Indy hats, but instead the more modern generic flat bows. Fedora

The HJ I have has that extravagant looking bow too. It also has the same print and font on the sweat as yours but the sweat itself is a different color, these might be close in age. I remember someone saying these may be from the 40's.

The way that I know if an HJ is vintage or not, is the felt, and the craftmanship. These were excellent on vintage HJs, as it is with other vintage hats. They just took more time with the old hats. Also, I never saw a vintage HJ with the sweat retaining stitches located at the brim break the way modern ones are, and LC fedora for that matter. Which tells me the LC fedora was made at the same place as is making the HJs and Christies now. Same factory. But not the Raiders fedora. No brim break stitches in that hat. Fedora

Where are the sweat stitches on this HJ? Mine are well above the brim break. I have a feeling this one and mine may be from around the same time.

No idea ulloa, I'll be at home next week and so will the hat hopefully…so I will get some pictures up as soon as I can. I'm quite curious to have it in my hands to see the craftsmanship, still $75 dollars for a new (to me lol) lid is a good deal, especially when it’s a HJ…
And fenris
just barely
…a lot of my vintage bits and bobs have been shanghaied for stage props…she just didn’t know what she had, it looked to me the spit of the John Baker Dr.Who lid…think the Doctor going to a funeral and that’s it ....
