Raiders whip.

Hi guys,
I made this whip over the last 2 days for myself. I've got the flue pretty bad so I've put some orders back until I'm better and decided to make this out of pure boredom. I hate sitting around feeling sorry for myself. Anyway, here's the pics.

Its 10ft 12 plait kip hide. I should be back to my orders start of next week :D

What a beauty! How do you make a whip in 2 days? Making a nylon whip is a major undertaking for me.

Thanks for the great comment. I made this in 2 days because I got the flue and usually it takes me a day and a half for a 10ft. I do all the core and bellies etc the first day then the final overlay and knots the day after. I've made so many now that I've just got faster. I plaited the overlay in about 3 hours.

Not only am I impressed by the look but by your speed! It takes me... no I dare not say. But it takes me a lot longer to make a whip.

Beauty!

Thanks Franco, I forgot to mention that 1 day for me is 10 hours not including the dinner breaks and such. I wont stop until I get to the stage I want to get. My girlfriend thinks I love working on whips more than i love her  I tell her "NEVER" on the other hand  :#:

I hope you're feeling better now. Three hours for the overlay! That's impressive. Does that include cutting strands?

No thats just plaiting. It takes me a good few hours to cut, stretch, resize and skive the strands. On a bad day it can take forever.

wow......
beautifull....

3 hours to plait a 10ft 12 plait overlay.......and so well plaited....

I wish I could work that fast....

it takes me one hour to plait only one ft. :x :x
Sometimes 2 hours when it's dropping time......

I am sooo impressed.....

May I ask you one question please Graeme?
-Usually I make tamales with each strand of the overlay. I do that to avoid tengling. I was thinking it could help me to go faster
what's your trick please? except experience and talent of course ;)

Thanks for the great comments guys,

Indianabravo- I'm feelin a little better now so hopefully Monday and Tuesday for yours my friend. I've found out a hide I've had for a while and it seemed to have aged a little so I can do the darker trans knot with that like I've done on mine if you wish ;)

jeanfifi- I just plait untangle plait untangle etc, no secrets. In the words of Bernie from em-brand-whips "PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE" It used to take me forever to plait a whip and I find leather is much easier and faster to untangle than para cord when plaiting. You will get there my friend, If I can "anyone" can ;)

G-Roberts,
That whip rocks!
Your strands and plaiting are always so straight and precise. Very nice!!

I keep seeing WAY too many nice whips on this board that I can't afford and it is killing me!
(Guess I'll have to learn to make my own! :-k )

I'm impressed too Graeme. It is a great looking whip and that you did it in 2 days while you had the flu is even more impressive!! Nice job.

Hey Graeme!

That is the image that I have floating above my head in a dream cloud when I am sleeping! :D I canĀ“t wait to get mine and take it out for a spin, although this is the rainy season, so I may have to wait a while.

Take Care!

Thanks for the nice comments guys. I think I got more the "MAN FLU" than "the flu" because I'm feeling a lot better this morning and itching to get back in the work shop :whip:
