G&B Expedtion in Goat

Anyone have a close up shot of the Gibson & Barnes Expedition in the goat hide (dark)? I'm trying to determine how "grainy" the leather is. I know goat will never be as smooth as a lambskin.

It will vary from jacket to jacket and also how long and hard it has been worn and if it has been washed or rained on as all these will pop the grain.
However, as a rule these jackets (I have one) are very smooth and even. Perhaps too perfect looking...

I have a GB Expedition in Goat and have worn it much and it still looks new. I have had it for years and a friend removed the side straps to try and raise them a little as at the time I thought they needed to be to be more SA but then lost the straps so now it just sits in my closet collecting dust.
My Lamb took a while to start to age but it definitely has aged nicely. It is soft and lighter than the goat. It now sits on my display. It is very used but still doesn`t look like it has seen many adventures so I guess thats a testimony to their durability!

Did it occur to you to contact G&B and ask if they would replace the straps on your goatskin for you?

Several months ago I tried to email them and kept getting a response that my mail wasn`t going thru.....but even so, it just recently occurred to me that maybe I could call them. Boy ,do I feel silly!

If I have a chance this weekend, I'll try to send a close-up photo of my G&B goat. I can't make any guarantees as to when I can or how good the photo quality will be, but I'll see what I can do.
Here's some links to some other photos of my G&B:

Nebraska, your jacket looks great. I have researched this forum for hours and I have determined that the Expedition fits what I want out of an adventure jacket. I have talked to their customer service a few times, and they are nothing but friendly and responsive. I have a jacket on the way.

No need for more photos then.
I think you've made a great choice--I've had mine for 4 months and like it more and more each day.
Best wishes,

The G&B Expedition is truly the "iron man" of Indy jackets. Enjoy.

That's what I need. I'm so rough on jackets. Every time I wear my Wested Lamb, I'm afraid I'll snag it on something the hide is so thin. I previously ordered a Wings CE, and I love how durable that jacket is. I need more durability vs. 100% SA. I've also read great things about the liners they use. The jacket is supposed to ship sometime next week.

Received my Expedition jacket yesterday (dark Goat). I Absolutely love the jacket. The excellent craftsmanship is very evident. I own a Wested ROTLA in Lamb, and a Wings CE which are both great jackets. I was concerned that the goat hide would be too textured, and thick. Not the case at all. The hide has texture, but not too textured. I was also concerned that it would be too thick of hide to drape the proper amount. Again, not the case. The liner of the jacket is excellent. Not real sure what it's made of, but it feels like satin. I'm guessing some sort of synthetic material that is strong, but feels very smooth. I was expecting the jacket to be very heavy, but it isn't. The jacket is very dark brown, almost black. This jacket will be able to handle everyday wear without showing it.

The G&B is a tough jacket, T-O-U-G-H! Even their lamb jacket can hold its own. The quality contruction just adds to its value. Wouldn't trade it for a deer hide at all!
...gotta get my digs in on the way out the door!

...actually, their prototype Expedition deerhide jackets were works of art....if they hadn't stretched out so much.....too bad.
