My Camp Penman hat, what does everyone think?
I just got the hat back after being worked on, ie brought back to life. I love it! When I first opened the box, I was amazed. I love the look and how it feels. What does everyone think? These are the "after" pictures. BTW these were taken at 1am after getting back from a Super Bowl party so the pics were a little rushed as I wanted to have this up before my photographer (wife) went to work today. Could someone please tell me?
1. Who worked on it?
2. Who made the hat?
3. And what style of hat is it?
I know the hat needed some work so it may be difficult to pick it out. Thanks!

Re: My "new" Indy hat
Wow that´s some serious reverse taper! I like that!
Alright here are my guesses
1. and 2. : Is it one of 3thousandbucks reworked Fed IVs?
3. Regarding the reverse taper I would say you are going for a SoC look?
Did the back pop up a bit? I would love to see the hat with the back lowered a bit.
But, really really nice hat! Congratulations for your new old hat

Yes the back popped out, I'll see about replacing that pic later. I didn't realize when I put it on. Again it was late and perhaps from being on the hat stand. I'll have to see about getting a hat box for this at some point.
You're right on the style. Thanks for playing and for the compliments!

DING-DING-DING, we have a winner. Yes, John Penman did it. What do you think of the hat, Chewie? Or anyone else? Anyone? I only have 2 comments.

The back of the center dent popped out for sure. It looks like you need to grab it from the pinch near the top for a few days untill the crease settles.
Jim post the shot I sent you please.

Well, I know what my grey Metropolitan came out like after John got his hands on it & I know I'm going to send him my Fieldmaster & Legend for a reworking as well. I like what I see here & that is the look I think will do well on my Legend. Fantastic work John!
Cheers!

I was about to say the back needed a little droop, but of course the eagle eyes around here beat me to it.
John does good work, that's for sure! I'd love to see some Akubras he's had his mitts on.

I have done a several and I have to say I have to be-block them different than I block my own. They bleed to much for me to really get them soaked like I do my own felt. What I have learned is that every label has to be treated differently.
Re: My Camptown/Penman hat, what does everyone think?
Was thinking about having John rework my Camptown. But I saved everyone a bunch of grief by just tossing the misshapen POS into the garbage.

Seriously?! You just threw a hat away? Least you could've done was offer it up as a freebie to someone in need of a hat. Heck, I would've taken it!Piker wrote:Was thinking about having John rework my Camptown. But I saved everyone a bunch of grief by just tossing the misshapen POS into the garbage.

Re: My Camptown/Penman hat, what does everyone think?
First of all, a BRILLIANT combination....Camptown and Penman!
I love my Camptowns...and that said, I REALLY need to send my grey out to John to have him do some magic to it for me some day. We've flirted with the idea via email on a couple occasions. Maybe this year I'll get that deed done.
Your final product is absolutely perfect. Perfect base hat to start out with, the Camptown, and John Penman making the final bash.
Fantastic!!
HIGH regard! Michaelson

Thanks Mark. You just can't go wrong with John; if its him re-blocking the hat or buying one from him. BTW here is what my hat used to look like.
