Hey, I just picked up a Webley MK VI converted to 45 ACP. Now I've heard that the standard 45ACP round is alittle too hot for the Webley. Does anybody know if there's any truth to this? If so, does this mean I have to start reloading my own brass and try to figure out how much powder to use?

On the .45 conversion Webleys, it seems a lot of the guys reload their own rounds at a lower pressure to better match the original .455 loads, using either the .45ACP cartridge, or the .45 auto-rim. I'm sure some of the Webley owners here will chime in ( I'm not too familiar with Webleys - I only have a M1917 )

When I can't lay my hands on auto rim ammo I shoot .45 A.C.P. with no signs of overloads.
I don't use any hollow point or PlusP loads, just std. 230 grain. Going on the assumption that
your MKVI is in good condition you should have no problems.

Do not shoot a regular diet of full house .45 ACP loads through your Webley Mk. VI. They are hot enough to be considered "proof loads" for the Webley, and can eventually cause damage to the barrel and cylinder. You're better off using reloads with reduced charges. I use the Lee loading manual and use the lowest charge listed for that round. I've loaded both .45 ACP in full moon and half moon clips, and .45 autorim with lead bullets and what I consider "cowboy loads." You can shoot all day with these.

I've have a modified Webley mark VI converted to 45acp for about seven years now. I've fired mainly Winchester target ammunition, as well as my own reloads, and have had no problems with the pistol, or signs of excessive pressure. I've also fired around 200 Remington, .45 rimmed with no ill effects. If you stay with the Target ammunition I think you will be fine.

Light .45ACP reloads are a breeze to do. Just look at the .45 AutoRim loads - some start in the 600-650fps range. These should be fine. I shoot an Enfield MkVI with a cut cylinder. With 3.7 to 4.0gr W231 and 250gr LRN bullets, recoil is negligable, accuarcy is acceptable, and the fun factor is 100%. )

Thanks for the posts. I've decided to reload my own brass with light loads. I'll let you guys know how that works out.
