Well aged DelCarpio?

I'm sure I'm not alone in this, but it seems pretty easy to distinguish an "Indy" whip's maker just by looking at it. For example...

Morgans: The new handle design is unmistakable, and the older ones have the unmistakable aged look.
Strains: Flawlessly cut strands and tight plaiting.
DelCaprios: Blasts from the past, as far as Morgans go, but identified by their "youthful" look.
Nolands: I can't put my finger on what it is, but the thong shape or overlay stands out to me.

My though, however, is that an aged Delcaprio would be indistinguishable from the highly valued Morgans of yesteryear. Anyone one disagree, or own an aged DelCaprio to prove/disprove my theory? Also, does anyone have an "off-brand" Indy that they think cannot be distinguished from a Morgan? Care to share a picture and test us?

Dang it though...why does it seems there's no mistaking a Morgan, no matter how young or old? Maybe it's because I owned one, but as soon as I see one (even a picture) my brain sends off a flare.

Your not alone. :TOH:

All are excellent Indiana Jones style bullwhips in there own right but all have small, yet distinct differences based on who makes them; those details pop out when you know what to look for.

I still think Bernardo comes closest to matching the over all look of David's earlier bullwhips, but despite all the details he has incorporated into them to achieve that look there are still slight differences here and there that often set them apart. Then again even the whips Alex and Meagan are making for David Morgan today, while very similar to Davids whips have little noticeable differences too when you look closely.

I agree, Bernardo makes a top Indy whip, the best for vintage Morgan design and overall appearance in my opinion, yet a del Carpio has its unique style too, that sets it apart and identifies it as Bernardo's work. This is like fine wines or violins or something. :)

I agree too,
Even though mine is the KOTCS model, it still looks reminiscent of the older early 90's models to me. This one flows really well too!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that the Morgans of at least the past 10 years have thick/fat thongs for like the first 3 feet. This is something I don't seem to see duplicated by the other vendors. The others seem to start an even taper right away and are skinnier like the old Morgans. If this isn't just my imagination, I kind of like the thicker thong. Does any vendor duplicate this design (Delcarpio LC?)

Hi Paul. As far as I am concerned... you're right. Newer Morgans are fatter at the base, and older ones are thinner. There are more differences between older/newer Morgans that many a few can inform you better than me. What Morgan usually does in his whips is he tapers the whip at a certain ratio for the first half of the whip. The rest varies according to length.

BTW, I also like the fatter, more rugged appearance of the current Morgans, but they're not screen accurate for the first three movies.

ATB,

Aldo.
