Mutt Jacket Help

Hi there everyone, long time viewer first time poster here. Would just like to say at the start that from reading around on these forums I have never seen such a good group of people. Everyone so helpful and really good 'atmosphere' (if that is possible for a forum!)

Anyway, I have been using the forums in my quest for a Mutt jacket. After much searching for a Belstaff Mutt jacket I have still not found one 6 months on. Now I understand that many people will question 'Why get the Belstaff when you can spend less and get a true SA TN which is handmade?'. Thats a totally fair response....and I LOVE the TN Mutt Jacket from having seen some of the pics of other owners on here. I would love to order one tomorrow....

However, although the jacket looks amazing in most ways the one thing that I feel uncomfortable about it with is the fact that some owners seem to have a perfect looking TN Mutt (to me) while others seem to have a colouring that is too light (more grey than black) and lacking any shine at all. I guess I am worried that if I am to buy a TN Mutt the colour wouldnt be the same as the ones I like. Hence why I pursued the Belstaff Mutt, the colouring seemed darker and has the slight shine to it like Mutts on screen jacket (ie. although it wasnt the 'real deal' it was the safe option)

I do understand that TN made the screen jacket and I understand with a custom jacket that no two pieces of leather are the same, maybe it is that inherant risk that concerns me about ordering a TN Mutt. Also I wouldnt know weather to go with 'Mutt' sewn on or my name 'Henry' ](*,) lol

If anyone has any views on this it would be appreciated, especially Mutt jacket owners! Thanks.

The Belstaff version always looked too shiny and slightly plastic-y to my eye.

Some of the differences you see in photos of the TN Mutt may simply be photo effect combined with inherent differences in leather. I know he uses the same leather for the black jackets that he used in making them for the movie.

As for the embroiderd name, do you want to be referred to as 'Mutt' forever on?

If you are sure you want it monogrammed, than go with your own name, unless you want to do a lot of explaining to people!

As far as TN or Belstaff, well if you want a true replica of the film jacket, go with TN. You can request any darkness / finish of leather he may have on-hand.

And while it sounds like you have narrowed this down already (and have a fair chunk of change to spend), why not check out Schott's Perfecto jacket? That is the jacket the Mutt jacket is based on to begin with. Just a thought...

I just wonder how I can view the leather that Tony would make the jacket with because I am in England. I am sure if I could see it I would be much happier.

I kinda like the idea of going entirely SA and going with 'Mutt' but then I can see people saying 'why have you got 'Mutt' on your jacket'. Any Mutt jacket owners experience that? Is it as annoying as it potentially could be? lol.

Also any TN Mutt jacket owners I would greatly appreciate some new pictures of your jackets...would be nice to see how they are looking (I have exhausted all the TN Mutt jacket pics already on these forums so some new ones would be good)

Thanks for the thoughts so far.

As for the embroidered name, if it was me, I'd go with my own name if I were going to have the jacket for everyday use. If it was to be used mainly as a costume piece, I'd go with "Mutt", of course.

Go to the 'Other characters' section and do a search there. You'll find a lot of 'Mutt' jacket discussions in that area.
