My Grey Henry has arrived! NEW PICS!

I got my grey Henry yesterday and I did want to take pictures, but the weather here has not been great, today I thought I might be able to get a picture with the hat on my head, but no one is here to take my picture. So I took some pictures by the lamp for some light. The color accuracy is probably close but not entirely accurate since I took it indoors. I will update with some pictures of it on my noggin in the next few days. All I have to say is wow when I got this hat, how soft the felt is. I got mine from Marc and Stefan and this hat is just amazing. Thanks you two guys for your hard work on this grey Henry, everything is high craftmanship quality.
So comfortable on my head that I am wearing it as I type. It looks great and I absolutely love my new grey Henry. More pics to come. This is just a taste.

Thanks John, Yes the color is much different in person, plus the lighting is not good on the pics, its one of those energy efficient bulbs, its a warm 3200 degrees Kelvin so its not exactly going to look exact color wise on my DSLR.
RaidersBash, self-timer on the camera...why did I not think of that before.
On problem with that is I don't have a tripod, plus it would have to be a wideshot unless I am really good at getting in the right spot I focused my camera for a timed shot. I will have one of my family members take a picture of me in the hat tomorrow, I just hope the weather cooperates. Stay tuned for more pics tomorrow sometime, most likely after I get off work.

Would you say it was closer in color the the Raiders seaplane hat or the train traveler hat?

Well, the prototype pics are much closer to Raiders.
Me, I voted for the lighter grey, which would have been a better fit for the train hat.

In person the hat in color looks like the hat in Raiders, that is what they are trying to get with this grey hat. You know what I don't know if you can get any closer to the Raiders grey than this. I know in the seaplane the ribbon is bigger, but the color is dead on. You can read John Penman's comments about the grey Henry's he received in the vendor section. Its a very nice color, its not light like the CS hat, and not too dark grey. I will try to get some pics outside tomorrow, its suppost to be a good picture day, cloudy.

I can vouch for the color. I had a chance to visit with John and see the Greys firsthand today. Same as the brown Henrys in every respect except color. Oddly enough they share a little bit in common with the browns in terms of color as well. Much like there is a slight green underhue in the brown, the same thing is happening in the grey, and it looks fantastic. In person it is VERY close to the seaplane scene - a cross between burma and charcoal. These pics were taken indoors with flash with a flash white balance. Fairly good representation, but still, definitely not 100%. I'd say more like 75%.
Can't wait for John to get some 56's in stock so I can claim one of those babies for myself.
Regards,
Brian

I just notice that the top of the front pinch popped out. Must of happened during shipping. Give that hat a good grab.

Must... resist... temptation...
That looks sharp, and I imagine the quality is identical to the brown Henry. Well, Christmas isn't too far away... I know what I'll ask for!

Quality is just as high as the browns. I kept one for myself. I just had to.

I have been working on that, keeps doing that even when I grab and hold it for a while. What do you recommend if it keeps doing that, some cold water treatment?? I have been working on the pinch and it is getting better, but the top as you said needs some work. I seems like every hat I have gotten this happens to me, the pinch came loose or the bash from shipping, it makes me wonder what they do to the boxes.
Anyway its not a huge deal, today is kind of drizzly this morning maybe i will be better this afternoon for some better pics. Thanks for the compliments DanielJones.

JUst keep grabbing it from the front pinch for a few days until it settles and then stop. Better to do it the slow way then to start throwing water or steam at it.

Okay, I can see from the new pics that it is a very close approximation to the Raiders seaplane gray. Very nice job on these.
Maybe later, they can add the train traveler gray as well. You could have a Henry for nearly every mode of transportation.

Thanks Crisman's and Tundrarider, it does really go well with my suit. The grey Henry is just an awesome hat, very well worth the money. Sorry I didn't get the pics up sooner it has been a bit of a busy weekend.

That is a good looking color for the Seaplane/Washington hat.

After the pinch has settled in, is it recommended NOT to grab the hat at the pinch?
Re: My Grey Henry has arrived! NEW PICS!

That is correct. Ounce the crease settles, then stop taking the hat on and off by the crown. Handle it from the brim.

Can you elaborate as to why this is recommended?
I have to get out of the habbit of doing so. Not sure how much longer I should wait - I have all the creases to where I like them. Now I just need to start taking it off by handling the brim.

Though it would probably take a while in a quality hat, taking it off by the pinch will eventually damage the felt, perhaps even wear a hole in the felt. Taking it off by the brim helps insure longevity.

I believe the thinking behind not handling it by the crown is, particularly with a tight pinch, you can eventually wear it out. Especially right at the top of the pinch you can break it down enough to wear a hole through. I see it on old hats at antique stores when I look.

That's a bloody beautiful hat. I would have bashed it my way but I love the colour. I would love to have one like that

Once again this fish is on another hook!

Why do all the cool hobbies have to be expensive?
Aside from Indy hats, I can think of at least three other fedoras I would want John to make for me.

As John mentioned the top part of my hat the crease has popped out I try dry bashing it back it by hold it there for a while and kept doing that everytime I wore the hat which has not been much, but it may be more as the weather gets warmer. That top crease just keeps popping out, sometimes it does stay but not for very long. I put a very light amount of water on it, that helped, but I guess it keeps popping out like that. I guess maybe I didn't use enough water to hold it in there? Any thoughts??
