Most excellent Grame. Bravo!

But why were you dressed as Indiana Jones at your cousin's party? Was it a costume party?

Hi maboot38, yes it was an optional fancy dress (costume) party. Luckely 90% of people came in costume ;)

Ahhhh, sorry. I didn't realize fancy dress meant costume. Here, fancy dress would probably be interpreted as suit and tie or formal wear.

Learn something new every day! :)

Sorry for all the questions, but what's a "working man's club"?

It's normaly a big hall that has a drinks licence. Some people go to them instead of a pub as the booze is normaly cheaper. You can hire them for private events too.

I thought that at first too, but we have an all together different definition of "Fancy dress" that includes aprons and jewels.

Working Mans club means working man. Most of these places have roots in trade unions and as others have pointed out the beer is usually cheaper

Graeme, are you talking about Masonic lodges or just clubs in general? I think darthinvictus was talking specifically about Masonic lodges having bars in them. darthinvictus, I know you are in Georgia, and I forget where freemason lifes, so your lodges might be dry, but here in Boston, we have plenty of libations at the lodge, we just don't partake before meetings. You'll have to stop by and visit Columbian Lodge when you are in Boston.

Graeme, How long is that whip? It looks great!

Fancy is the last word I think of when wearing gear. Heck, if you called some members here fancy while they're wearing their gear you may get a fancy black eye. :rolling:

Maboot,
we do not have any sacred elixirs at our blue lodges,
however at the shrine club well.......
Greame,
I had a wonderful time in scotland ireland and england.
I saw the castle from Highlander as well as Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
sadly I only got to stay for 3 days in London. But I had a blast.
I was told not to tip at the bar however I am an American and could not follow that particular custom.
I want the fellow feeding me drinks to be happy
