I found a suitable "hat stand" to rest my fedora on. I think it's even an antique since it was with my family even before I was born.

Here it is:




I think it blends in well with my Indy collection (which I have to rearrange, by the way). I have no idea what its supposed to represent... Buddha? A monk? All I know it's some bald-headed dude... This actually used to freak me out when I was a little kid. Who'd have thought that after 29 years I'd be using it as part of my Indy display and hat stand.

Oh, here's it is with my hat draped over it.

Pretty sweet hat stand there. Now you can freak your kids out with it.
Looks like it was kept in pretty good shape too. Hard to say but it may have been a book end to begin with back in the day.

By the way where did you scare up the pieces of the map in the frame?

Scare up? Sorry, didn't quite get that... Are you asking where I got it? Or how did I make it? That's just a printed version from the prop replicating thread.

As for the "hat stand" being a book-end... I dunno. It has no flat sides. The side that looks flat in the pic isn't actually flat. I've never seen my grandma use it as book-end. It used to be on one of the shelves in our old house. It creeped me out as a kid. The eyes look kinda alien or something. Hahaha!

Anybody here who can "decipher" or figure out its origins? It definitely doesnt look like a Philippine sculpture. It looks like a thin alien budha in my opinion.

perfect for our great stand fedoras, certainly very good collection and I see a resemblance to the statue to an alien.

I think that is an awesome hat stand. My wife is from the Philippines from the province of Tacloban and she collects oriental vases from all over the far east. She likes the large round bellied tapered type vases that have a small opening on top. I use her expensive vases as my hat stand. She hates it but tolerates it. I really need to find something a little better. I think yours is perfect. It has as much style as the fedora.

Yep, "Scare Up" meaning "where did you find that?". Something that I heard from an old timer about 35 years ago & thought it was just odd enough to use in conversation.
Thanks for the heads-up on where to go to to print one out.

The hat stand sort of looks like a sleeping Buddha but I suppose it would have to be reclining for that. Who knows?

I really think it's an alien... hahaha.

I really wanna ask my grandma, but she might have a fit if she knew what I was using it for. Hahaha! I asked my mom about the carving, all she knows is that it's old.

That's one of the most unique hat stands I've seen, even if it wasn't necessarily one to begin with! What kind of hat is that by the way, is it an Akubra Federation IV? An Adventurebilt?
