Waterproofing boys leather jackets?

I just bought my grandsons a couple of US Wings Kid's Indy jackets. Very nicely made by the way! I would like to waterproof them as best I can so the boys aren't soaked and freezing up here in Washington state. I've used Scotchguard spray a long time ago and that worked pretty good. Many people swear by the Pecard products.
I noticed these silicone based Pecard products. Has anyone used either of them?
It seems like the lotion would go a lot farther then a spray.

Well, if you want a fool-proof solution, you could always throw one of these on it:
Kidding, but I've used Pecards gel on my Westeds with good results so far, having been caught in a couple of rainstorms for maybe twenty minutes on average, always coming out arguably dry on the chest. But I'm not sure if that's the work of Pecards, or the work of the leather, as I've been caught in untreated jackets with similar results.
Also, what kind of leather do your grandsons use? That might help in recommending a product

Kiwi Dry Camp Water repellent works well too.

I have a Cabelas near me and saw they carried this product. I might give it a try since I'd save on shipping.

Well last night we had 8 hands "slathering" (Michaelson) Obenaufs heavy duty LP onto 2 jackets. Myself, son-in-law and 2 grandsons (10 &7) spent about an hour working the stuff into every nook and cranny on all surfaces of the leather. The company recommends using the HDLP creme first, followed by the silicone spray (waterproofing) and using the oil periodically for maintenance. The color looks awesome! They darkened up quite a bit like if they were wet. I'm sure they'll lighten up. We plan on letting them dry and absorb the creme for a few days prior to the spray. I'll post some pictures once the boys can wear them.

Sounds like you done good! I'll be interested in hearing how things progress, as I've never heard of mixing oil and a silicone spray product before. It's usually the old 'oil and water won't mix' scenario. Should be interesting as time goes along to hear of your success!
Regard! Michaelson

Now that you've put them to work slathering, are you going to make them wait until Christmas to open the packages?

He better not. All that slathered oil will soak through the wrapping paper!
