My new budget whip from Gus arrived today. I'm very happy with it. It looks beautifully made and I think it should crack nicely!

Seems to be a "budget" thing. If you'd like a rounder knob at that price, go nylon.

Making a rounder knot is a bit more work. For the money Gus's whips are the most SA you'll get.
If you want a rounder knot get ready to spend a few more bucks.

isnt it just the foundation that matters for a rounder knot? cant really see how that would be to charge extra, please explain cause i might be lost int raslation somewhere(although so far the whole topic has been very clear
)
and i think the whip look great, especially for the price
what the price of a high end whip from gus? say 8ft 12plat.. ?

To make a more can shaped knot you pretty much just tack lead or leather in place. for a round knot you have to build up the round shape on top of the leather or lead that's the "main foundation".
Or you have to make the leather or lead taper smoothly to a round shape. I don't use that method because I always seem to cut myself smoothing out the tapered piece of leather or lead.
Building it up from can shaped to make it more round requires extra materials and time and that should equal extra cost.

might be more work than it sound like with leather, but i still think it sounds weird... but i'll take your word, cause i know you know what youre doing ;D (followed some of your bullwhips.org post to make my first nylon whip(with changes obviously) thanks for those posts ;D)
i still wonder about the length(i'm pretty sure i didnt miss it!), looks 6ft to me? :S

There are other factors involved in making more round-ish knots (other than the foundation). The type of knot, angle of the knot, etc.
I just put some pictures on my blog about how I make a less can shaped knot.

Hi thanks for all the comments. Yeah it does look a little square. Looking at the picture it shows. But When the whip was infront of me it looked to be like the one on this pic.
I have been making so many whips here in the past few months, that I ran out of the foundation material that I normally use. For the past year I have been making these whips at a great price. $240. At that price I give the people looking for a great whip that looks good and works great for all that they are looking for with out spending $1000.00 on one. I don't have no where near that kind of money to spend on a whip.
I am now charging $320 for the 8ft 12 plait whip. I am putting a little more time on the whole whip making it look and feel better. But since my time is valuable to me I will charge more to make it.
In this world of products I have learned that it is impossible to satisfy everyone, But I try very hard to make anyone that comes to me for a whip to be very happy.
I make a well and usable whip. Like a good car that everyone can afford. It takes you to your job, home, movies etc. A Benz will do all that also but it will cost you alot more. Ya know.
I hope that this has answered anyone's questions and concerns about purewhips. Email me, call me, facebook, myspace or pm me here. I'm around all the time.
