Custom Flightsuits

I live in DC but I grew up in San Diego where my parents still live. I was home visiting them and I decided to go to the Flightsuits store in El Cajon and get a made to measure Indy Jacket. It took them 7 DAYS! The only modifications I made were a longer length in the body, switching the zipper, and interior leather facings. The jacket is so insanely good, I can't stand it.
Anyway, they said the turn around was so quick due to a lull in their production season. So those hoping to do this should act now and the jacket will come ASAP. It is expensive but this will probably be the last leather jacket I ever own.

Congrats, LJ, on your new FS. You were doing fine in your description, until your very last line. Last jacket you'll ever own? One can only hope, but it's never what happens. (grins) You HAVE to have more than one in the closet. By the way, did you call FS or email them? I've been trying to raise Dave Marshall, and he hasn't replied to either his old FS or new Gibson and Barnes address lately. Just curious. Congratulations again! Regards. Michaelson

How much did they charge you extra for the interior leather facings? Any time I inquired about having this feature added they either blew me off or made it cost prohibitive.

Did they make any mention of relocation in the next few months?

I emailed Ryan Barrington about getting the made to measure. He responded quickly and said come on in. I went in and there were no customers. The whole thing took about 30 minutes. He gave me time to try on some jackets and really figure out what I wanted. No rush at all. Once he took all my measurements, I told him that I wanted the length to be equal to that of a 42 Tall. He said no problem.
The interior leather facings were no extra charge...he even went back to the jacket designer to ask her if I could get these and she replied yes. Once you pay that much, you can pretty much get what you want within reason. I could not be more pleased. Also, no mention of relocation.
By the way Michaelson, I know it sounds far fetched to say that this is the last jacket I will own. However, I am a man of simple tastes. I have one pair of boots, one pair of jeans, and one jacket. I like having one...they take on character because you use them all the time.

I agree; I have only one fedora and it's become a trademark of sorts, but also has it's own character--this scuff on the felt is from the tree that time I was cutting wood--this pull in the sweatband is when I almost got ran over by a truck, etc.
Tis' like a time capsule of my last summer.
Regards,
Farn

Understood. That's how I started out, but as I used and watched my 'one of' items slowly disenegrate with constant use, I realized having backup items to rotate out allowed ALL the gear to last many years longer than their original life, even with proper care. I'm not talking about the 'I've got to have another one.....' phobia. (grins) Regards. Michaelson

I have to agree with Michaelson on this. When you rotate gear it lasts much longer. Shoes especially need rotation. It gives one pair a chance to dry out the moisture that your feet have left in them (which in turn makes them last much longer then if you wore the same pair everyday) while you wear the other pair. Cheers

To just follow up, just heard from Dave, so all is well with the world again. Yes, I get nervous when I can't reach our vendors. (grins) Regards. Michaelson

All I can say is that I STILL haven’t received my FS catalog after three requests since they got them in despite assurances that they would send it out immediately. Right or wrong, in my mind it sort of tells me that if they can’t deliver on the simple things they sure ain’t gonna get the complicated things right. I hate it when despite assurances a company doesn’t follow through, it sort of shows them up to be incontinent, and der ain’t nothing I hate more other than BAD spelling or grammar.
And that’s my opinion of FS as of now. Of course if a catalog and my samples should show up on my doorstep tomorrow I MAY change my mind.

To answer your question, well, your weird "Don Imus" sense of humor. I mean you can practically fill in for the guyon the radio when he goes on vacation.
)
) LOL!
Did you request the catalog online or via the phone? Did you ask politely or did you say you were "Peter Botwright" and you wanted a catalog?
) You know that can make a bloody difference.
)
Why don't you PM me and we can get the situation cleared up. The catalog is beautiful.

I would say that they are probably getting ready to do a mass mailing (the catalogue is brand new). Your name was probably put onto the list. I have yet to receive my catalogue either, but I know it's coming. Normally you probably would have received it by now. Cheers
PS- I think that most of the guys that have catalogues picked them up directly. They make jackets right, trust me.

So then, you paid the $125 or $135 "made to measure" fee and they threw in (on your request) the leather zipper facings as part of that charge? Got any pics of how the facings are done/look. I'm curious how wide they made them, especially at the top around the collar.
