Alden 405 Boot claimed as Orthopedic Shoe by Work Benefits?

Wondering if anyone has ever purchased the Indy boot and claimed it through their work's benefit programs (if you have that option available) since it is on Alden's orthopedic line. I have $ available in my benefits for orthopedic footwear, so I might try to do it for a new pair, but just want to get some feedback from other members that may have done it. Truth be told, it actually does make my back feel WAY better. When walking too long, or standing in a spot too long it starts to kill (its from all the skateboarding and snowboarding) so they actually do serve a purpose for me.

My work will pay for Dansko but not Aldens I just tried with our HR department. They offered to pay for half of the shoes for me though. I wonder if your work will let you get Aldens? Maybe try Dansko? I've had mine since last Thursday and they are awesome even better than my old Air Jordans!

I have Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance and the plan says it covers foot orthotics. Would I need a script from a doctor? Anybody else turn them in to their insurance and get reimburssed? They cover them at 80%.

Yes, for my first pair, and was reinbursed as well through BC/BS.
There had to be written proof from a doctor, which I submitted.
That was back in the 90's, though, so I don't know what the current practice is.

I wonder what BC/BS federal covers?
What was the turn around on your reimbursement?

As I recall, a couple weeks after the claim was filed.....but like I said, keep in mind that was back in the early 90's. The plans have changed a LOT over the years, so you need to check with your HR folks and ask what the new standards are.

Yeah, I pulled up my policy online and neither shoes nor inserts are covered.

So, another 'benefit' bites the dust.

I haven't checked with my current insurance which is bc/bs, but I had bc/bs with my old job a few years back. When I went to the pediatrists I had to get 40 dollar inserts that weren't covered by my insurance. He said I really needed the ones molded to my feet but those were 300 and not covered.
I really should invest in some aldens though....my feet and knees hurt generally all the time. I have very high arches....
My aunt had some kind of foot and leg issues where she had to use a walker in her mid 50s.......wonder if that's genetic......meh

... And Jack, they are perfect if you need inserts. At least they are with me. There's a few others here who can attest to that

I defnitely need inserts, I have to put them in every shoe I wear. Just another excuse to buy aldens....lol

I also have to have inserts. Is there a need to order a larger size if inserts are used?

If you're going to spend this much for a pair of boots find a dealer and try them on there with the inserts.

I had an employer go in 50/50 on a pair of top of the line redwings because they were anti slip and I spent so much time standing on concrete and hard tile floors for hours on end. It never hurts to ask, but be aware there are a lot of companies that sell orthopedic shoes to other businesses at discount.
Or....
Have you thought about asking for a raise?

I'm self employed; I ask for a raise all the time but never seems to work out....
Also have self paid insurance. I'll have to see if the tax return will be big enough to get a pair if I can't get reimbursed.
