Hey everybody ,
I'm interested in making my own whips and understand the process but I have no idea on how to do a twelve plait pattern.
Could anyone help me by directing me to a tutorial or video or anything. Also please share any tips and tricks you have learned through your own whip making expierences.

I highly recommend Ron Edwards' book "How to Make Whips". It tells you pretty much everything you need to know.
Another book which is mentioned a lot is "Whips and Whip Making" by David Morgan, although I haven't read it myself.
You can find either on Amazon.com.

Braiding Fine Leather by David Morgan is very helpful in learning braiding technique. I think he describes it better than Ron Edwards (ron's book is a great book too), but the pictures in Braiding Fine Leather are more helpful than the ones in the Edwards Book.
Whips and Whipmaking's first half is the history of whips (which is stuff you need to know if you want to make whips), but in the 2nd edition David lays out his pattern for the Indy Bullwhip.
All the above books you can get from David Morgan
http://www.davidmorgan.com/index.php?cPath=7_11_196 or Amazon, but I'd rather give the money to David than amazon.

Chase,
all the suggestions you were given are bang on. Follow them.
As a quick fix, if you know how to do a 4 plait, you can do a 12 plait. A 4 plait sequence is under 1 - over 1 (u1-o1), and you do the same thing on both side of the plait. A 12 plait is the same idea, just divided by bigger numbers. So instead of having 4/2=2(for the number of strands on either side of your thong...) and the resulting 2/2 (for the sequence), it would be 12/2=6 and 6/2=3, or the obviously simpler equation of your total number of strands (12) divided by 4 = 3. So in a 12 plait whip for the standard herringbone pattern, the braiding sequence would be under 3 - over 3.
If you go on Youtube you can find good examples of how this is done, but I would still go out and buy all these books anyway. They are great tools as well as good reads.
Good luck,
Franco

Actually, once you wraqp your head around the number crunching aspect of it, it really isn't that difficult.
Except, when you walk away for a bit, don't tie off your work, and a few strands start goingtheir own way...
Then you need to backtrack a few rows and regroup.

I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to say about the first 3-4 strands... Elaborate and I may be able to help.
As for pairing, do you mean paring? As in skiving? Because all that means is to shave off the corners from a strand. Usually in round plaiting of more than 4 strands, the opposite corners are skived, while in plaiting 4 strands both corners on the flesh side are pared/skived. This is just a general guideline as many do it differently.
Let me know in more detail what your questions are, and we'll see if we can't get you on your way. And yes, books are a good idea.
Cheers,
Franco
