The great dawning

Hi guys, I've been looking at lots of jacket threads and I must tell that it was the search for the perfect coat that led me to COW. For years I have quested for 'the jacket', albeit locally. I always knew what it was that I required in a jacket but never have found 'the one'. My list was simple; brown leather, no knits at the cuffs or waist. Having never been very computer savy and never really viewing the net as a place I wanted any of my financial info floating around ,year after year I searched local department stores, mens stores, and the big chain 'coat factory' with only frustration to show for it. There have been many 'almosts' and 'if only it was' runner ups but nothing that matched the clear picture in my head of the perfect jacket. Well, it came to pass that the other day my son Quinn (age 5) and I decided to watch Raiders together on the big screen. And in that Glorious opening scene of the greatest movie ever filmed, in full on surround sound and 251 inches of home theater awsome, it happened. I realized in an instant where the 'Ideal' jacket in my head had come from. The boyhood hero that I had idolized since the impressionable age of six was wearing it. And even though I have the all of the films and can quote them line for line, I never made the connection untill the moment Indy came into full frame, and my little boy with eyes wide and filled with the same wonder I had when I first saw the hero at about the same age, looked at Indy and let out an awestruck "COOOL!"
And so my quest is on the cusp of completion as I wait for my custom raiders jacket to be made at Wested leather and ship to me in all of it's awsome Indyness and I have found a community of folks who obviously had the same reaction I had, and my son had some 28 years later to the greatest hero to ever leave his indellable mark on the collective concious of now two generations of people the world over.

Your story certainly reminds me of the way my own began, and if it goes the same route, well you can look forward to an entire closet full of 'cool'!

The Indy bug is more contagious and rampant than H1N1, and WAY more fun.
Welcome aboard!

Fun but expensive.....
3 jackets, 3 hats, 6 shirts, 4 gun belts, 6 holsters, countless pairs of pants, 5 guns, 3 whips, 3 bags with straps, 1 (!) pair of Aldens, 2 idols, 2 grail diarys, later...... and I'm a light-weight here

Welcome, but 'abandon all hope, ye who enter here....' would be a good back up motto for this hobby.

Yeah, I see how contagious it can be, hope my wife can stand it! She already puts up with more of my 'hobbies' than anyone could expect. The countless dollars I've spent on collecting a sizable catalog of movies and turning my basement into a movie theater complete with framed posters and memorabelia alone has already driven her crazy. But I say if you gonna watch your favorite Indy film, you might as well experience it on a 14 foot wide screen.

I've valiantly resisted the urge to buy a Blu Ray player, but if Raiders is released in BR I know that will resolve will crumble instantly!
Yes, it is addictive. And without being patronising please pace yourself!
(Oh, and REALLY don't visit filmjackets.com either) LOL!

they are going to release it in BR, as far as I know.
In Italy they changed the actor voicing for this new edition...no italian Indy fan I know likes the new voicing - the movie has been broadcasted on sky recently.

oh dear, by that yardstick I'm a non-starter with only one of each [but I did make or adapt as much as I could myself]

Abandon all hope of having money as well!
Welcome and I hope you love your jacket. If things run true to form, it will soon have lots of company.

I've had the jacket, then lost weight and the fit of the jacket, as well. I finally have the jacket again and my health and jacket are both awesome. I hope you find your perfect jacket!
