Stumbled across this today, looks like a viable alternative:

That's the way I went. They are nice pants. Not pleated, but well made:

Well, they're repros of officer pinks. They didn't have pleats.
After all my asking to see pics of these pants ages ago, they FINALLY post pictures on their website. They had expected me to buy a pair sight unseen. And they wonder why I didn't buy from them.

Re: Post your close enough pants links...
Anyone remember which pants were the close-enoughs from LL Bean?
Re: Post your close enough pants links...
For me, close-enoughs are only worth it if they are a cheaper alternative to the real thing. Both Wested and Magoli adventure pants are cheaper than WPG's as well as being more SA.
LL Bean has some chinos that can be regarded as close enoughs but they are pricey. However, they are wrinkle- and stain-resistant and quite comfortable to wear everyday.

They have two close-enoughs...Photoss wrote:Anyone remember which pants were the close-enoughs from LL Bean?
1. My favorites, in Dark Khaki cotton with slanted front pockets;
http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores ... SR&feat=sr
2. Better fit, but straight front pockets; http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores ... SR&feat=sr
Hopefully, they will bring back their microfiber versions of #1 above. The color was darker on those. They also have a wool trouser, but it lacks the pocket flaps and the slanted front pockets, but some people like the fabric and color.

The Olive is very dark and very green. It's a nice color, but not for Indy gear. The website make it look more like an OD Green, but it is not.

Re: Post your close enough pants links...
I just purchased some of these pants in the JAVA color
www5.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?DeptID=53006&CatID=53031&GrpTyp=SIZ&ItemID=158af74&attrtype=&attrvalue=&CMID=53006|53009|53030&Fltr=&Srt=&QL=F&IND=14&cmVirtualCat=&CmCatId=53006|53009|53030|53031
(Sorry, cut and paste for some reason)
An excellent color in my humble opinion. They are cotton washable. The belt loops may not be in the right place and there are no rear pocket flaps, but others have discussed buying a second pair to make alterations if you suffer from one of those SA diseases like I do from time to time. I just think the color of these is right on as a darker Raiders khaki color. Not so ochre yellowy kahki, more medium brown. Let's all start using terms like CE adventure pants. You now Close Enough! Look at my new CE fedorea, look at me new CE jacket. Yikes!

Re: Post your close enough pants links...
Hi Jake. I have a similiar type of "close enough" that I like to use as well. It's the Wrangler casuals, Docker's type, with two pleats that you can buy at Wal-Mart. They obviously don't have the pocket flaps nor are they button up, but I thought the color was much like Raiders pants. There again, jmho. Not bad for the money, $15, and from the front, the casual fan couldn't really discern it, unless you knew what to look for. They call this color, "Bark".

Hey broadsword nice pants
Which of the two links are they? The new ?(bottom link)
How do they compare to original pinks, if you had the luck to handle originals?

Re: Post your close enough pants links...
I'm not real sure actually. These were WPG's test set that he sold me at a cheaper price. I do have a set of originals that I was wearing and I have say that the repro version is thicker material. He may have corrected this with the production model, but I'm not sure. VERY nice pants regardless. Well made and built to last. I noticed the belt loops were a bit on the small side, but not enough to make it a detractor. The standard web belt will work. Again, another thing that may have been fixed with production. I would say they are a great close enough, but as someone mentioned, for the price you might as well get Wested or Magnoli...I just happened to get them cheaper because I asked for something such as a defect or factory second.

There's these from LL Bean, microfiber with pleated front and back flap pockets. On clearance for $40; they come in taupe.

They've been sold out of taupe for a long time, though. Otherwise, I would've picked up a pair.

Re: Post your close enough pants links...
I've been very happy with these from Cabela's.
They are not SA, but they have held up well for tromping around 4 weeks in Israel:

NS, I just picked up some of these Cabelas. After looking at all the colors I felt the darker brown color "Tundra" was the closest to the CS pants. I bought both the dark khaki and tundra.Nebraska Schulte wrote:I've been very happy with these from Cabela's.

Don't have a picture right now, but I magically found a pair of pants that will more than fit the bill for most folks' inspection. Got them for $3.50 at the local Goodwill - just happened to see the right color peeking out of the racks of other pants.

Re: Post your close enough pants links...
I got those LL Bean pants in the mail.
They really are great - color is good and the look is just right for Indy. They are very comfortable and have that 'fit' that looks just like in the movies.
Since Indy's pants vary in color from movie to movie, I'm really not going to nitpick about the color - some say it should be darker, but they look pretty good to me.
IMO, the most important aspects of getting an off the rack pair if Indy pants are the back pocket flaps, pleats and similar color range.
Unless a vendor offers a unanimously decided 'definitive' pair, I will stick with these.
I still need to have someone take pics of me in them, but since I am waiting to get my shirt from AB, I will hold off on that.
The color of the pants will look much darker when being worn with the shirt because the shirt is so light.

Re: Post your close enough pants links...
Has anyone tried to dye the cement color to an Indy color? What dye color would be best for KOTCS on the cement color do you think?Vaderbreath wrote:They've been sold out of taupe for a long time, though. Otherwise, I would've picked up a pair.
I just went ahead and ordered a couple pair of the cement color since they had them.
On sale and free shipping just sweetened the deal.
I think I'll mess around with dying some material to see what might work.
