Fedora's Leather jacket

Since the ideas are comming thick and fast these days, maybe TN could try one of these too?

Does anyone have any good captures or photos of a similar jacket to the one worn by Fedora at the start of Indy 3? I like that it is longer, has buttons and is made of a thinner hide. If I could get a good pattern I would have one made.

I know Peter made it but I am sure his patterns no longer exist. Didn't Michaelson have one made? I wonder how well it was done. ;)

Well, it does seem that he was the inspiration behind much of Indy's attire.

Yep, I have one, and commisioned it from Wested. Personally, I think he nailed it. Photos are back in the archives somewhere, dated around 2006 or before.

Check with Peter. He should still have the patterns, and was seriously considering offering it....but other projects got in the way, and it kind of fell by the way side.

The Fedora jacket just doesn't do it for me. There is something amorphous about it. That may have been on purpose.
Indy's jacket has character.

I'd have to agree with you there. To me it's a shapeless horror of a jacket. Don't like it one it :?

Must have been 2005 then. Time flies now. As I recall, KT shot photos of the jacket while it was still in the Wested shop and posted them here.

KT, any chance you still have those squirreled back somewhere?

Crud. Well, apparently I got it some time between July and November of 2006, according to VP's research. I KNOW photos were posted, as I remember the poster apologized for showing them to the community before I had even received the jacket...which was ok by me.

OK, am I nuts or in the third picture (first link) when looking at Fedora from the front it looks like the jacket has an action pleat. But in the picture of Fedora's back I can't see one.

Seems like they deleted it after my link. Basically it was dated January 2007 and was about quality control issues Wested had back then, and Michaelson had some problems with his Fedora jacket too. Probably removed because it's all water under the bridge now and no need to beat a dead horse. Man there were a lot of threads by PLATON in the jacket section back then.

Hey Mark, the first link was dated in Nov. 2007, the second Jul. 2006 and the last one Jan. 2007.

I was going to ask the same thing, VP. All I found in your last link were my comments about a posted jacket received by another individual, and nothing about my "Fedora" jacket, then this morning the mesage the thread no longer exists.

I do remember that Wested QC thread, though, and there were issues about the cuffs on my jacket...but I can't find that thread either. :-k

I wonder if the server 'hick-up'd' again. :-s

So, it appears it was late summer 2006 to be the target date area that my jacket arrived.

Cuff detail: two buttoned cuff.

also, look at this guy. he would rock as an Indy replacement!!

Full back: see the split that goes down the middle and the hem seam. I think it has a double hem seam.

Well, I DO like it, enough I put my money where my 'interest' was and had one made.

We have so many rubber stamped 'Indy' jackets floating around, why NOT expand our horizons and include something different from the film series in our collections? ;)

Yes, I did have issues with the QC on the cuffs, but that said, everything else was dead on regarding details from Wested if you're interested in picking up one of these items. He DID have the patterns 3 years ago, and should still have them somewhere.

OK thanks. So he made a pattern for you.

The Fedora jacket to me sometimes looks dark brown other times black. Anyone know which it is?
Is the collar with a suede insert or is that cloth/wool?

Yes, he did.

From all reports, it was black. I had mine made out of black 'new finish' cowhide, though the original was lambskin (so we were told). The collar was nubuck wrapped in the lambskin (or cowhide), as is mine.

it actually reminds me of a longer version of the steranko jacket.

I think the original leather is lambskin. really reminds me of the old english lambskin peter used to use.

I don't see the steranko jacket in it much.

when you say old english lambskin, looking at the jacket in photos you must means some kind of capeskin glove leather

I always wondered what the collar was. Now I know. Has anyone else had one made?

It's like a car coat but with an interesting film pedigree. I guess I liek it because I like longer leather jackets.

Cheers - CM

It is car coat like.
The length, collar and button front without zipper added reminds me of a 'Barn' coat.

Perfect description. That's why I wanted one, as it's the perfect length to wear on those cold Plymouth seats in cooler weather.

There's a reason they were/are called 'car coats'. ;)

I have a black car coat that is certainly a close enough if I ever want to go with a Fedora costume. Of course, the problem with that is if I'm in a brown fedora, black leather jacket, khaki colored pants and wearing a map case people will call me Indiana Jones all day long!

And to boot, he wore his bag outside the jacket.
Image

Indy must have finally remembered this later in life.

Though Fedora quickly "lost" his bag somewhere along the chase based on the other pictures posted by Holt.

Indiana Jeff

That bag moved in and out of his jacket more than Indy's did in the Streets of Cairo fight, didn't ?

If you'll notice, it's INSIDE his jacket in the cave (check the photo from the back of the jacket above), but in the photo immediately above where he runs out of the cave chasing Indy, it's OUTSIDE his jacket...then on the train, it's completely gone.

Gotta love the bags. First, they didn't even exist yet. Then, they have a mind of their own moving all around.

But that coat, yeah, Fedora's coat. Cool stuff.

Indiana Jeff

This is certainly interesting as I'm a fan of car coats (spent quite a while tracking down the Dean Winchester/Supernatural car coat) and I like the Indy connection.

Would you people stop uncovering more jackets for me to want?

I really need to find the time to study it in more detail but work has me snowed under so I've barely looked at any of my mail. However in the corner I have the latest creation of Indy Magnoli and it is magnificent. Light rain is forecast for the weekend so I'll be wearing for a stroll very soon.

He actually has some pics of it up on his site:

I didn't know Indy made those. VERY nice. Looks exactly like my Wested prototype, including the nubuck collar, though mine is made in new finish cowhide.

If I had the funds to order a jacket from Indy Magnoli, THIS is the jacket I would purchase....right down to the goatskin hide. :M:

This one is the first Indy has done as far as I know but hopefully there will be a lot more to come.

I got in contact with him a few months ago with a few grainy screencaps and an order for a custom leather jacket and this is what came back.

I hope so too. Like I said, Wested made a prototype for me several years ago, but never followed up on the line.

Indy was just getting into the business himself, so I never approached him with the project.

I'm pleased you did. It's a great looking jacket, and knowing Indy's product (owning a couple items in cloth myself from him), I KNOW the quality is top drawer.

The only thing I would add/suggest to the design is to have one or two zippered inside pockets, as ALL the pockets are open top. Things tend to fall out unless you have at least ONE that you can close up. #-o ;)

Like I said, if I were buying a jacket from him, this is the only one I would buy myself. I've always had an affinity for the 'Fedora' Utah jacket, and always will.
