Hello all, there has been quite a lot of great Nowak jackets arriving, some from orb and others as well on here. I own two Westeds which are holding up great. It seems though everyone since last year has not stopped talking about Tony Nowak's jackets. From the pictures and what people have written about them look great. I have really wanted a Nowak jacket since last year. In the next few months I will probably have enough money to probably be able to afford one jacket from him. I have decided already a TN Raiders, but as far as hide goes I am completely confused. This is where you COW's come in. I have seen some TN Raiders shrunken lamb and some look great to me. Orb's new goat looks absolutely amazing, did not know goat could have a that nice dark color like that. The new "Nowak" goat intrigues me and so I am torn in between the Shruken lamb which looks great and would be a great hide. Or do I go for the new "Nowak" goat??? Let me know what you guys think, shruken lamb or goat?? What have you guys that own a Nowak experienced from either one.

Well, I only have the shrunken lamb so I can't comment on the goat, but I really love this jacket. I heard stories before I bought it about its "black spidey suit" qualities but I was amazed at how well this jacket instantly started moulding to my body. It is also a lot tougher than I imagined. I wish I could compare it to the goat to give you accurate info, but I guess you'll have to wait until someone chimes in who has both

Well I only have a TN CS jacket. However, I have been to Tony's office and tried on every possible Indy jacket he had and I can tell you that any of them are top of the line, but it seems that you are leaning towards more of a Raiders jacket. If that's the case, I would definitely go with Tony's "Zero" jacket in shrunken lamb.

I have a Nowak Raiders in goat, but haven’t seen the shrunken lamb (although maybe I’ll order one in a near future ). I am afraid Tony works now with so many different goatskins that what I can tell you about mine probably won’t fit the others. This hide, the Holy Goat, is way thicker than lambskin and very, very rich in texture. It is tough as nails, bulletproof and I should say that even missileproof . Very, very stiff in the beginning but once it starts breaking in, it becomes noticeably softer. Yet, it drapes really well because has some facility for getting wrinkled and staying like that almost eternally. It has a very dark brown colour with a little of reddish hue. It is shinny too.
Finally, and by far, the best leather and the most beautiful I have ever hold in my hands.

If you search in other threads you will see that Tony has many other options: much thinner goats, with very rich undertones… etc. All of them are really beautiful, in my opinion.

Hi Kyle what is Tony's "Zero" jacket if I may ask, never heard that term before??

Gwyddion, ya I saw the "black spidey suit" qualities about it, and I just am not sure that is really for me. No offense to shrunken lamb or anything. Just in the movie its not really that apparent really, the leather looks smoother and ya there are some marks, but I think it has to do more with distressing. Thanks for chiming in though on the shrunken lamb camp, I really appreciate it.

So far it looks like shrunken lamb might look more Raiders, but still unsure, seems like Tony can make a goat look just as good as the shrunken lamb. Hey Rask, your jacket is missle proof.. , I think really every Nowak just gets better from wear is what I have read and seen on this forum. Thanks for the opinions so far, keep them coming, anyone out there with both?? Orb?? Han?? Anyone???

I think Kyle is referring to a Raiders jacket that is an exact copy of the film jacket Tony had to copy as the zero jacket.

Yes that is correct.- It is the jacket that Tony copied when he was given the jacket for one day to perfectly replicate one of the actual Raiders jackets.

There's only one Nowak goat owner so the rest of us can only guess off of those pictures how awesome the leather is! I'm cool with making my own decisions from that, but not cool steering someone in a direction!

Chris the best place to get answers is from Tony himself

There are people with the (TN) Raiders jacket in various versions of goat, cowhide, and shrunken lamb.
Most have been posted about in this forum.

The "black spidey suit" qualities I was referring to do not have anything to do with texture, but with the way shrunken lamb starts to mold after your body immediately . There is practically no break-in time with this leather, no need to wet it and wear it until it's dry, no need to sleep in it (though you will be tempted to ). After a few days of wearing it it looks like a well-worn jacket and it will stay looking like that (so it won't look "over the top"). That to me is actually my favourite property of the shrunken lamb leather. Again, I don't own any of the goat Tony offers, so they could have the same effect going on.

EDIT: This picture was taken two days after I got my jacket. Look at how well the arms are creased already. That is what I mean by "black spidey suit"

I think the best course is to call Tony, tell him what you're looking for, and have him send you some samples of leathers he thinks will best fit the bill. Some of these leathers defy discription and you have to handle them yourself to get a good idea of what you want.

I think this a good course of action. It seems that not many people own the goat or have really tried the goat yet. I just saw Orb's jacket and thought wow that is goat.

Gwyddion, ya I thought you meant like black spidey suit like orb's first shrunken lamb. His looked like it had all kinds of texture details when his first got his, thanks for the explaination. That is a very nice jacket Gwyddion. At least it starts to mold to your body right away, my other jackets have taken quite longer. Looks great, I think the texture of that jacket is what I am looking for.

I think like many people have mentioned Tony is very helpful in getting the details down. I just was not sure how much of a difference there really is between the goat and the shruken lamb. I will contact Tony here in the next couple of days about the leather he has. Thanks for all your help guys, really appreciate your opinions on this.

I am resurrecting my thread from earlier rather than start a new one. I have decided on getting a jacket from Tony, I am going with Raiders because of some new info on the LC jacket, that does not mean I will consider Tony for an LC, just means I am considering Wested for that since the LC's they make are very good. Anyway I need some help as far as sizing goes. I am 40 as far as jacket size goes at least in my wested I am, anyway do I need to have someone take measurements?? I don't think I can just take a weekend off and go to L.A., I know that the Arnold Classic is going on and I could make it to Columbus, OH for that. But I don't think I can make it. I think I have decided on the shrunken lamb, and what is exactly striation jacket?? I'm not sure exactly what to order here regarding Raiders, I know Tony will do a great job I am just seeing what else I need to do before I call him up. Thanks.

Just order a Raiders jacket. You don't need to give specc's or details. Give Tony your sizes, and he will discuss all of that with you to make sure he has everything he needs.
For shrunken lamb there is the 'original' which duplicates the jacket Tony copied, the 'striated' which has a sort of 'lines' on it like the other main jacket in the movie.
then there is the less grainy shrunken lamb that was developed for people who didn't like or believe the grain.
You should be able to find photos of each that were posted here.

Can you say what this 'new info' on the LC jacket is you have?

Its not my own information its the new LC jacket write up, basically Lee Keppler's jacket was going to be used but he did not have the mean to replicate it. Anthony Powell went to Peter, he had Lee send the jacket to Peter Botwright, and I am still unsure whether Lee got the jacket back or not, according to Lee now he got it back. Peter copied it and made the LC jacket off of that. I believe this is the reason why LC jackets look so good from Wested and the Raiders is so hit and miss. The Temple of Doom jacket again is a copy from one Noel Howard had. This is not any of my personal info just things from this site and information on this site.

But sounds like Tony knows soo much that all I need is to give him my size. Thanks for providing info on the different types of grain, I don't know exactly what I want, I do see grain, but I don't think I want lines on it like the other main jacket. I will talk to Tony, see what he thinks. Thanks for your help RC, I am also leaning to a goat as well maybe.

this shows some of what is meant by 'lines'.

I know what you mean now I have seen that before. I don't know if I am going for that look or not. I will talk to Tony about it. I do want it to look worn, but not look like its taken a serious beating, that I can do on my own if I wish.

Yeah, those 'lines' on the shoulder are the way the grain is, not part of the distressing just to be clear..

Well I remember Peter saying he had some of them drummed as to what he called it, some type of textural thing done to the grain, is this what he is talking about then or is this something else. My apologies on the correct terming of things I am no jacket maker.

Thanks Indyzane great examples there. The Nowak looks like its seen battle. Looks great actually. Thanks for sharing. Maybe I will go with Tony on the LC, like you said both are good jackets, it is hard to choose though. I will eventually though.

No problem Chris! Like I said just thought you might like to see them together. Wested is mine and the Tony Nowak is someone here in the forum.

When I saw this Tony Nowak LC I feel in love with it. I like my Wested just always wanted a perfect LC jacket. I know its hard to figure out which jacket and by who. Take my advise get them all! Hope to see your jacket soon, good luck Chris!

I purchased a LC HEAVY distressed in dark cow. Just like the photo I posted here. Also I purchased a KOTCS jacket lightly distressed(same leather). I haven't recieved them Tony has been very busy and he said soon. I can't wait! I am going to do a post when they arrive for sure. Thanks for asking!
