Todds up-towner v the Henry NOW WITH PICTURE
Which of the two is the best hat? Todd's is certainly the winner on price. Is it half as good as the Henry?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Todds up-towner v the Henry
From what I read the Uptowner is made from rabbit and the Henry is a 20% beaver blend. Also the Henry has the correct ribbon that only Marc, Steve and, I think, John use.

I think maybe the better comparison would be between the Fed IV and an Uptowner. I own a Henry and a Fed, and the Henry is a better hat (as well it should be given the price difference).

I can't speak for Todd's Uptowner, however, The Henry is an Amazing fedora and I am extremely pleased with it and it has Adventurebilt behind it, which was important to me. I wanted High Quality without the wait time and imo I got it.

Off hand, I'd say The Henry. BUT, that's off handed, I own neither. From what I've seen photo wise, I'd have to say Henry. Especially now that John has them in stock for US buyers.

IndyClone, that Uptowner looks even better on you than the Downtowner does. I really like the color of the felt, it looks as if the ribbon's dark brown?

Color-wise, that's a better looking ribbon than my Keppler has.
Also, I just took a look at the shots you posted in the Uptowner thread, I can see an improvement between the two.

I'm getting quite excited now. My uptowner is currently in the UK and should hpefully be with me in a few days and my enry has been shipped. Excellent service from both Todd and Penman Hats. My MAgnoli jacket is in the process of being made- I'll soon be fully geared-up once again!

How long did it take for your Henry to be shipped? I plan on buying one, but I am still waiting for my size 56 to come in.I'm getting quite excited now. That's my size too. I just talked to Stefan over the weekend and the new batch of Henrys will be done the end of next week, which means John should get his in a few weeks.Bdgsi11 wrote:How long did it take for your Henry to be shipped? You are correct sir. There are only 2 labels that have that special dark brown almost black vintage like ribbon. Any of the AB's and the Penman. Thats AB by Steve, ABD by Marc, AB Henry and my handmade hats ( Penman ).
Re: Todds up-towner v the Henry NOW WITH PICTURE
Here's me in one of Todd's uptowners which arrived this morning. Nice hat- probably could have done with the 60 rather than 61. I seem to fall between the two sizes

Nice hat! From initial views/reviews, it seems Todd has a winner here.

Re: Todds up-towner v the Henry NOW WITH PICTURE
I believe you can shrink them down a little by steaming it real good, then setting it on a lamp/lamp shade. The heat from the lightbulb does a good job shrinking it. I did that to my Downtowner for similar reasons and it worked well.
But that's just me, and since I'm not an expert I'd garner a few more opinions
