My first impressions:

~ The washed goat is a really cool looking leather! It's very soft and supple with a great color.
~ Some have commented on the funny smell of goat, I guess the washed version is the exception because it doesn't smell "fishy" at all. It has a nice "tanned" scent that isn't "cow" but is definitely leather.
~ Peter and Co followed my requests and specifications perfectly.
~ The overall quality of the jacket looks to be top notch. No loose or errant threads, seams are tight and straight, and all the panels are sized right and positioned correctly.
~ The zipper is good 8 gauge that should last the lifetime of the jacket.
~ I really like the dimensions and shape of the collar. It's already starting to curve some and take on a personality of a worn in shape.
~ I've only been wearing the jacket since 7:30 am and the washed goat is already developing nice wrinkles and "distress" lines. I don't think I'll have to do anything but wear it to get it broken in. (no wadding in to a ball, wetting, or Pecards)
~ Fit: I'm very happy with the sleeve length, as long as the sleeves don't shrink! Arms by my sides, the cuff comes to the first knuckle of my thumb. Arms extended, the sleeve rides back a little, you see some wrist. Body length, I wanted the jacket to be a little shorter than most of the jackets I've seen here so I sized it shorter than most of you would. I may have gone a half inch longer had I to do it over again, but it's still well within the look I was going for. Especially when zipped. When unzipped, the back flares out at the bottom like some others I've seen here, I guess that's the nature of the pattern. Across the back and chest, the jacket fits like a dream. Overall, I'm very happy with it. (pics to come so y'all can critique it).
~ The lining I went with was cotton body and satin skeeves, I think I made the right choice there, the jacket seems to breath, and my arms don't bind in the sleeves.

It's not completely SA, but that wasn't my intention.

Overall, I'm very happy with my jacket.

Well, from your initial write up, it sounds like the jacket is exactly what you wanted. Glad to hear it! Now... lets see some pics of it on for a better idea of what its like.

but I would without a doubt pecard it. I have washed goat sample that I pcarded and I loved the look of it.

you could try it on backside of the pocket flap to see how it would look after it has soaked in and dryed up.

if you want to darken it up? go for boot oil. just dressing it so it becomes more waterproof (becuz its a naked skin) go for standard pecards dresssing. but will darken it a tad since its naked.

So, the standard Pecard's Leather Dressing, not the gel? (I remember reading something about using the gel stuff for washed goat somewhere on here).

Here's what I asked for:

Pockets: scalloped flap
Outer Pocket dimensions: 6.25” wide x 7.5” tall
Pocket placement: 2" from bottom of jacket, left pocket placed 1" from storm flap stitch, right pocket placed 1.75" from zipper seam.

I have the same jacket and I agree with everything you said. I have had other Indy jackets but this is by far my favourite.

Plus I get a lot of compliments on it, and a few even said it looked like I stole Harrison Fords' jacket from Indiana Jones! Imagine their faces when I told them that the jacket was made by the same person as for the movie!

Yeah man, thats a really nice jacket on you, it fits perfect Pocket placement, collar, length all look awesome. Great job with the specs, now all you gotta do is wear the heck out of it! And don't worry, my girlfriend said the same thing when I got mine. I was wearing it in 85 degree weather

Personally, and out of experience of this leather, I resist the temptation to treat it with anything for 2-3 months. Let it pick up all those scuffs and marks then give it a good coat of pecards. (Of course pecard right now won't hurt, but you'll loose the fun of the scuffs!).

You'll find quite a lot of grain will pop up as you wear it in.

Yes, it is a little shorter than most, as I stated above, that was by design.

I am playing with the side strap tension, too little and the back really flares out at the bottom. Too much and the back blouses too much. I'm experimenting to find the sweet spot. The good news is, the rectangular sliders are really good at holding on to the side straps and keeping them where you set them. No extra folds or twists needed.

I like the idea of letting the jacket "age" for a few months before I hit it with Pecard's. I've ordered some and will wait a while before I use it.

BTW..try to avoid wearing it in bed!

IMO any good quality leather dressing or saddle soap will do - the more the better.

Thanks for all the compliments guys, I was kinda nervous after placing my order with Peter just because I had read some negative experiences that some have had. I must say, it was great to see that Wested can put out a quality product in a timely manner.

I'd definitely buy another Wested (but shhhh, don't let my wife know I'm already kinda wanting a LC in Novapelle now )

It's like with every company, sometimes you have the good fortune to experience great service and occasionally bad luck arrives and you catch them in an 'off day'.

Personally, in my own experience, I have been very impressed with the services of both Wested and Magnoli.

Thanks Mrkaboom, it's still hot in Houston, but it's FREEZING in my training class, so I'm wearing it daily. I just for my Pecard's Leather Dressing, but I'm not sure if I should apply a coat, or wait and let the jacket break in some more first. I've seen contradictory opinions on this.

I will say this, with each day I wear it, the grain, wrinkles, and character gets better and better. I love this jacket, and have already had a TON of compliments on it.

I'm happy you got the gag holt, but I don't imagine Peter would need much cajoling when it comes to selling another jacket. Thinking about it.....for that matter, I don't think any amount of flowers could ever pacify my wife when it comes to my zeal for leather jackets.

Your very welcome Rabbit - the jacket looks the bomb. I'm writing to you as I'm very interested in ordering a Wested using similar specs to what you used. Im 6 foot tall and take a 44" jacket. Was wondering whether you would be prepared to send me the specs you used and that will give me a starter for 10. Also how much did it cost as I know the custom jackets start around £165 which is still good value.

Anything you can send will be a big help - i'm down in London next week on business and am planning on paying a visit to Wested.

Well, I wanted something that was medium thickness since the weather down here in Houston doesn't really warrant a super think heavy jacket. Lamb was my first choice, but I was worried about it being not quite as tough as I wanted. This is intended to be my functional jacket, not a costume piece, so I wanted something that would last a LONG time. After reading about the qualities of washed goat, it's durability and texture, I chose it. People have said regular goat is a bit stiff, and too shiny. The washed goat is soft, supple, and looks somewhat distressed right out of the box.

For me, it was the right choice.

That sounds like the best method of choosing a leather to me Determining what you want in a jacket, doing some research on the pros and cons of various leather types and then decide what would best fit your criteria
