Hey, I ordered my web-belt too large and need to trim it down. If I simply detach it from the buckle and trim the belt, will it come unraveled? Is there some little nuance that anyone recommends for keeping the belt from unraveling in the buckle after I cut it?

P.S. By the way, I say "thanks" completely authentically. I'm hurrying to put together some great gear before a costume event in a couple of weeks and you guys have been a GREAT help. Especially when I ask questions (like this one) that seems a little elementary. Thank you.

Best thing to do is get a really sharp exacto/retractable blade, and cut it with a ruler, it shouldn't unravel once its back in the buckle. Mine hasn't and its been a long time, and I'm pretty sure thats what the military did or does. You could always just sew the end just in case.

Just take off the buckle and cut to the desired length. Military web belts come on a big spool and are just cut to whatever length is required, so all you need to do it cut off the excess. If you want, you can singe the cut end with a lighter which should keep it unravelling; thats what I did for mine.

having cut the belt down to the desired length i just cover the end with a thin film of 'super glue' ,seals the end and stops any fraying.

If you're going to cut it, use glue or find something hot enough to melt the fibers. Otherwise, the belt will slowly unravel. I've lost many belts that way.

Has anyone noticed that there different thicknesses and weave densities in web belts.

It seems that the real military issue is denser and stiffer, where as others are softer and more cottony (if that is a word).

Where can I find the denser weave for a brown raiders? Or maybe I should just dye a military one?

I've noticed this too. My two belts from Todd are softer, whereas the one belt that I have from a real surplus store is more dense. This is the one I wear the most, cause it seems the sturdiest, but it's khaki, but would be interested in a brown Raiders one like this too.

I don't think you'll find the brown in the stiffer webbing. For everyday wear, I like that stuff because it's it's more durable. However, for my Indy gear, I go with the softer belts. The end does the screen accurate flop down better, where the stiffer ones take lots of breaking in to get there.

I found my Raiders belt in a military surplus store, they had a bunch of them.

Which store, how much and do think that they have any left?

I carry both the Khaki and the Brown web belts with a plated brass buckle or a solid brass buckle option depending on your budget.

Are they the dense weave? I am in. Why didn't think of you earlier...

Is it just me and my expanding stomach that causes the belt to loosen as I wear it? I pull it tight be it lossens up after a bit. Is there a secret to keppinf a web belt tight?

I've noticed that too. I think it has to do with the fibers warming up and relaxing after wearing the belt for a while. Similar to how jeans will feel looser at the end of the day than at the beginning. Of course, that will all depend on what you had to eat for lunch!

I have one of Wade's Raiders web belts, and it's pretty dense. I don't have another to judge it against, but it's nice and stiff.

Plus, very flame retardant. I tried singeing the cut end and couldn't get it to burn.. at all.
