My New (old) Joe Strain 12 foot Whip!

Hi all!
I put up a pic of this one in a WSP thread not long ago, but decided I would showcase it here, since I just got the chance to try it out. I got this one from Feebay from a guy who bought it through WSP in 2005, and then never used it. It was in absolute mint condition and fortunately the previous owner knew enough about whips to apply Pecard a couple of times. Anyway I conferred with Joe Strain himself regarding any possible dry rot. In accordance with his instructions, I gave it more Pecard and let it sit for a few days.
I took it out for the first time the other day and it was an absolute blast! The 12 foot length rolls out beautifully. The balance is just perfect and it is super accurate, as the decapitated dandelions in the park will attest to. I also love the color, saddle tan. It will be interesting to see how it darkens up. It is great to be able to dance with this "sleeping giant", finally allow it to do what it was meant to do. The handle and the 6 bight heel knot remind me alot of one of Terry Jacka´s CS whips. Check out the picture in the Indygear main site and compare it with my pic. What do you guys think?

It reminds me a lot of my 1994 Strain. I like the shortish handle length. It looks superb, man!
¡Felicidades, IndianaBravo!

That one looks beautiful. It's always a risky thing, to buy a whip via Ebay if you don't know about the seller,
but this is a real beauty. How does it handle? A 10 footer is a big deal, and two ft. more then...? If you're tired
one day looking at it - give me a call

Hi guys!
Thanks for the nice comments. This is my second Strain, the other one I bought last year, the standard Indy 10 footer. This one is probably the best whip I have ever had. Robby, the 12 foot length is actually quite manageable. I have another 12 footer by Arturo Rodriguez, although my choice of length is 10 feet. This Strain handles beautifully, and I was able to flick individual leaves off trees in its first outing. This may have to with practice obviously, but the way the whip is balanced is faultless. Yep, it is risky buying second hand whips off the net, in fact I was a bit worried after my purchase. Coming home after a night out and getting on Ebay is not always a good idea
Fortunately everything worked out fine!
Cheers!

Indybravo-that is a great looking whip. Need to get me on of those Joe Strain whips in my collection. A 12 footer sounds to be a great length. For some odd duck reason I tend to favor the longer bullwhips-a couple of tens, a fourteen and a 22 footer. Its funny in that I have more trouble controlling a 6 footer than the longer cousins. Anyway that sure is beautiful and I would love to give it a crack!

Allen, your whip is also an amazing piece of work! Bob, I have always had 9 foot whips or longer ever since I can remember. I love the way they roll out, almost in slow-mo, but also accurate as heck!
Viva Strain!

Sometimes you get lucky with auctions.
I bought a 6' Jacka from the 'Bay about 3 years ago for a SONG. Same story. The guy had bought it from WSP, cracked it a couple times, decided it was "too much whip for him," and threw it in a closet. Mint condition, but a little dry. I soaked it down with leather conditioner, and let it sit, and it's my "Work whip" today. If I'm doing demonstrations, or teaching, or whatever...It's the one I reach for.
That Strain is absolutely beautiful! The color and curve are just perfect! Congrats on a great catch!
Happy cracking!

I love whips like this, whip fall in the same color of the whip.
Regards.

Thanks Gaucho!
I really wanted a "natural tan" when I first decided to get a Strain, but when I saw the pics of this one from it's original owner, I could not resist! I really enjoy it and the thong is "air tight" braid wise, not "bumpy" like my David Morgan is....
Crack On!
