I've always given him my measurements (based on the chart on his site) based on a jacket I had that I loved the fit of. But I have heard of people just sending him a picture of themselves in the infamous colored jackets and he's given them a spot on fit. If you're really worried though, I'd go to his site and, using either yourself or a jacket in which you like the fit, send him measurements based on his chart. As to the rest of the stuff, pm me your email and I'll send you the packet I sent to him for my jacket (not trying to be mysterious here, it's just around a 10 page document with pics). I based my specs off every thread I could find around here as well as getting a big help from orb's and Han Jones' jacket specs. Of course, Tony's worked with enough LCs now that he may have the differences down without a spec list. He continually amazes me with this stuff.

I didn't even have a blue/green jacket or a photo to work with. I just gave him what I thought was very skimpy, general information about other jackets that fit me well, and from that he was able to deduce that Ford's specs would be the right fit for me-- all he needed to do was reduce the sleeve length by 1 inch. "That'll be alright," he said. The whole sizing discussion probably took less than 2 minutes. And the jacket was perfect.

So, based on my experience, I don't think you have too much to worry about. The guy is just amazing.

It is a bit nerve-racking to trust Tony based on such limited measurements, especially when you've never dealt with him before and when you've been used to giving very detailed measurements elsewhere in the past. I was the same way. Multiple times I asked if he was sure he didn't need more measurements, and I wasn't even fit in person by him or sent a mock-up jacket, either. But the jacket I got amazed me. Somehow he nailed it for me. And if anything would've needed altering, he wouldn't have thought twice about making things right in as painless a way as possible. (And based on the experiences I've read, his service is top-notch in that regard.) Tony just has a knack. That's the only way I can describe it. Just as we have several hatters who have a knack for producing an excellent Indy fedora, Tony just as a knack for jackets.

Great choice Tundrarider! ;)

Like crismans I sent Tony only my measurements based on his chart and some pics of crismans beautyful jacket (front and back). At the phone he said to me he made the jacket inside for everyday wearing and outside like the moviejacket... And what I got you can see at my LC-thread...

Trust Tony!!! He´s the master!!!

If you need any pics send me a PM.

Michael don't over think this.
Tony has seen you, he knows exactly what size you need. I like most others have only talked to him on the phone and the fit is perfect.
Many excellent tailors by the way, work in a similar way, visualising over a garment being worn, in fact it's often part of 'second' or 'third' fittings. The difference is Tony does it in one fitting as with you, by a photo or just gathering information over the phone.

If you search you'll find photos of other jackets made by other makers who did take 'measurements' in person and fit is horrid.

If in the off chance anything does turn out not quite right, rest assured Tony will take care of it.

You want to get nervous? Order a Raiders jacket from him. I think he asked for 3 measurements and I gave him a 4th without being asked. That's it (he had already made a CS for me, of course). I was a wreck worrying about spending that much money with those few measurements. What if it didn't fit after dropping a grand?!?

End of the story? Perfect fit.

Tundrarider

I would suggest just trusting him on how he does things. He has his own way of doing things and he has a great track record. Don't take him out of his way of doing things. If you do you might mess up poor Tony and end up not happy with what you get. Tony has great customer service and he will make you happy. Trust him. ;)

Ya man- just email him your specs. That's what I did and my Jacket fits like a glove. (I even added about a half inch to most parts so it would fit a little bigger, like the CS jacket looks on Harrison)

Tundrarider, don't worry, what you're experiencing is fairly new medical condition known as 'Wannabe jacket withdrawal syndrome' and you're about to experience the 'cure' when your new jacket arrives. :Plymouth: .....there's always a first time for everyone .... ;) :TOH:...........Doc

I wouldn't say it's a cure, but rather the start of an incurable addiction :P

Tony does things differently. I have no idea how he does it, but he always pulls it off. I too was a bit weirded out by the lack of specs/measurements he needed from me for my Raiders, but somehow he managed to make me a great jacket. I think he made eye-balling into an art-form.

I sent Tony some measurements taken from my Wested and a picture of me wearing it. That was all he needed. In any case, if something goes wrong, I am sure he will do anything to please the customer. I found him a great professional and a very honest guy.

Rask

Tundraraider, just out of interest. Your Wested, is it an OTR or a custom?

I spent just over three years working in a men's suit department. We had a tailer there, Pepe, who was probably in his late 60s. He was able to do the same thing - look at a person and get their measurements spot on. He would only break out the measuring tape to placate the customers who were worried he didn't know what he was doing.

Every. Single. Time. He got the measurements spot on. Like every trade, after many years of practice, these things come naturally to the trained eye. Trust Tony, as he appears to have demonstrated that he knows his trade.

Well you can't beat seeing the jacket maker in person.

There is some voodoo involved when sending in sizing whoever you use.

I've just had 2 items made from 2 different vendors, one ended up miles too big, the other one too tight. Both were given the same sizing!

Neither was anything to do with Indygear.

He's making a second jacket for me, and we always speak over the phone, and he always takes my measurements.
