Pics and a question for those who know

Post by uncle ogs »

Ok. Sorry if these are too large it is a while since i have posted anything
Here are a couple of pics of my fed that is the first open crown hat i have ever bought. I am happy with the general bash but i am by no means an expert on al the different bashes out there. What i would like to know from you guys is wether or not you feel i have managed to get a Raiders bash and if so, which ? Thanks guys.

The pics are a bit dark, but I'd say you've got a pretty good Raven Bar going on. Only your front pinch seems a bit on the low side.

Maybe heighten the pinch a bit, that's probably caused by having the center dent a bit too deep in front. I agree with Bullitt, it looks Raven Barish. :whip: Nice work!

If you could post pics where the light shines a little more on the front of the hat and also one that's straight-on it would be easier to determine. Judging by what I can see of this hat I'd have to agree with Bullitt and theinterchange, but untill you post pics that show the front better it's hard to tell without a doubt.

I still have my doubts about this hat. I have a lot of different hats and almost all styles suit me but i am not sure about the fed. It seems really bulky but then i have quite fat cheeks so maybe thats the problem.

That's better. ;)

Yeah, I'd say definately highten the front pinch some and try curling the brim upwards, by rolling it in your hands. However, your brim would be perfect if you're going for the bridge scene in Temple of Doom.

Looks like a LC hat to me. Tighten the pinch more and give the brim some character.

Looks like the back of the hat looks higher/even with the front. I think a good start, after the center dent, is to make sure the front is 4 1/2 in from brim break and the back is 4 to 4 1/4 in from brim break. Really is personal taste though. Last is to tighten the pinch @ the top of the hat.

Looks like the wide angle lens of the camera is giving the hat some barrel distortion, try taking the pic from a distance.

As it looks right now, it has a very low crown reminiscient of LC, with a Raiders tight pinch. Your crown height looks to be about 3 1/2 to 3 3/4", which is too low for a Raiders hat. The Raiders hat is around 4 3/4, depending on how it looks on you. I'd say bring the crown height up another inch. Work the front part of the brim, so it will tilt down and not straight out. The LC hat is bashed at about 4 1/4" to 4 1/2" crown height with a loose pinch and some brim curl around the sides.

What's the brand of the hat, it looks kinda like my old Akubra. I could never squeeze a true Raiders hat out of it.

I think the one thing it is missing for a Raiders hat is more turn. If you can at this point, take the bash out, turn the hat a little more till you get that Raiders brim warp and then re-bash the hat with a higher front pinch etc like people have mentioned. I think then you'll be where you want to be. :TOH:

If you look at the crown height and the brim in this pic it really reminds me of the teaser pic fedora from "Kingdom of the Crystal skull." The one with indy standing with the large cs behind him. Of course that image did not resemble the film hat at all.

Is it me or does there seem to be some taper in the crown? Does your brim have a dimensional cut? With a quick glance it looks like the same size all around.

Stepping back a little from the camera helped a bit also. It lets us see the hat at a distance which always shows it off a little better.

You've by no means ruined the hat! They're tough as nails.. well, maybe not that tough. :-k Just keep working with it, may take some time, but you'll get the hang of it.

As is, I personally like what you've done and think it looks good on you. But, you're the ultimate judge.. if you're not happy, then it's not right.

Keep at it and don't get too frustrated.

I have to agree with most. That the center dent in the front was way to low and might be still. I see you turned the hat. That helps with the brim. If you go to my youtube video. You can see a video on how to bash a Raiders hat. It should help some.

I say for a fed. the center dent should be 4 3/4 in the front and 4 1/4 in the back. If you get that right the rest should fall into place.
