can anyone suggest places I might get indy like boots (not necessarily aldens) in the UK, primarily, the sheffield, york, harrogate, manchester, hull, newcastle areas.

I would mail order on most things, but when it comes to boots or shoes, my size from one supplier to another varies wildly so I'd like to find somewhere I can try them on to make sure they fit right.

Hi Lancer. I looked for ages and could'nt find anything decent here in the U.K except for Aldens but they were out of my price range. There is a new pair of TODD'S on ebay at the moment in the U.K, size 10. You could always check to see what his returns policy is like and look at Todd's size guide on his site.

All the best.

I know you can get Redwings in Covent Garden, London, but I guess that's a bit out of your way.

I'm really surprised Aldens are not easy to find in the UK, especially considering there are a few specialist American clothing shops in London (where I've seen the Redwings).

I bought a pair of Timberland Workadays of EBAY for £45. they are very similar to Aldens and a fraction of the price. I can wear mine for work or going to the pub as they look good with jeans or a pair of wested pants. Check out my post with pics of the ones i bought.

Hope useful.

I'm confident there's nothing in Harrogate that will help, but here's a store in Manchester that carries Red Wings ... and has the Iron Ranger on their website. Whether or not they have it in stock, I don't know. It might be worth a call. They also have free shipping.

Those iron rangers are a bit tasty but expensive at £144. I like them though - would definitely look good with either a pair of jeans or indeed the old indy pants!

If you are contemplating those sorts of prices, it might be worth getting a pair of the Todds.Even if you get hit with customs you'll probably end up paying less than that.

IIRC he has a printable sizing guide that might help you decide your size.

Next are usually pretty good and they often have a good selection of stylish boots in pre-distressed leather, although they tend not to be particularly screen acurate they do double up quite well as a "dress" boot. That's where I got my boots from and they've lasted me well over a year so far.

Soletrader aren't too bad if you have one near you, but my local branch don't have a very wide range of sizes so if your footsies are larger than a size 9 (UK) you may have trouble.
