I use Pecard to dress my whip.

But Anthony De Longis gets this stuff from Colin Dangard called Dubbin




I was wondering if anybody uses it and if they recommend it.

I know that Anthony uses it, and when I've been to his ranch, I've put it on my whips. It gives the whips a tacky feel, and makes them feel almost a bit rubbery.

Any Dubbin users?

I use Pappy's Dubbin' http://www.pappysdubbin.com/ I really like it on falls! Usually after I put it on a fall, I wipe the remaining on my hands onto my whips and work it in.

If I recall the directions have you apply a coat, let is soak in, then apply a 2nd coat and buff off the excess.

Daren, I’ve tried it, it’s alright. I just prefer Pecard’s as my brand of choice.

Joseph Libby Dubbin is probably up there in the top 4 or 5 used leather dressings available that works well for whips though, The others being Pecards Classic, Fiebings Aussie dressing, Waproo Jay-El Beeswax dressing, Oakwood leather dressing, etc.

In those cases though I’ve found it’s more important that you’re actually making a conscious effort to look after for your whips, and keeping them well conditioned then which brand your using.

Still always test it out first, especially with natural tan leather before you dress the whole whip. Some of the leather dressings out there, especially the tallow based dressings can be little rich for natural tan leather. It won’t hurt the leather, but it can darken it more then expected and sometimes more then desired. I can’t remember if the Joseph Libby Dubbin was one of those or not though.
