I have read in posts that it was both brass and steel. With both of them appearing in Raiders (which is my main concern)

Any know the definitive answer (if such a thing exits with Indy).

The buckle is brass, but I think that its seen as silver at times just due to distressing. I know I have a brass web belt and the brass wore off from use etc and looks silver. But it is brass ;)

It seems like the originals were plated brass, so when distressed the silver colour showed through.

Even some of the 'Solid Brass' ones have a white metal back and white metal pins that the gold colour rubs off eventually.

Templar's explanation is what I've heard all along too.

Did anyone ever get a look at a screen used one?

Maybe there were both kinds... What were the real ones, if there were surplus old military belts used in Raiders?
