Hello everyone. New member here, my first post on this site was in the bullwhip section earlier today. So I thought I'd submit this hat for everyone's consideration.

Can anyone tell me it's origin?

Is this your hat? It looks like a Keppler.

Yes, this is my hat. And I know where it came from. I just wanted to see if anyone could hit the nail on the head.

I think people should not only state who but why they think it is that label and not another.

Good suggestion John. I said miller or PB because of the "blackness" of the ribbon. It seems that most of those hats I see posted have an almost black ribbon. I DEFINATELY could be wrong though.

I've owned a Keppler. The ribbon is black, like this one. The block looks similar. The color and thickness of the felt have me thinking Keppler too.

Alright, I'll end the suspense.

Mark Seven had it the closest. When I bought this hat at Burlington Coat Factory around October 2006 it looked more like a sombrero. I blocked it, trimmed the brim (too much I think) and put on a new ribbon and bow. Yes, the ribbon is black. It's that poly stuff available at any fabric store. After many errors I finally have a bow that looks good. The cost of the hat was around $19, time spent on it? Too many hours to count.

Today I dug out the before pictures of this hat.

I think Burlington Coat Factory was probably marketing these as the Urban Sombrero. I think the best way to see hats is on someone's head, when they're doing something. So here are the after pictures, taken three years ago this November I think.

The color of the hat isn't so good these days. I kept "improving" it. The last time I "improved it" alot of the dye came out. A pity though. It's a decent hat. Cheap, but decent.
