How do you rate the ruggedness, robustness of this jacket.
I already have a Wested Washed Goat, and would like to get a lighter jacket for the warmer weather.
Regards to all,
Gooch.

I'd call it a real good wind breaker. I would not wear it as a protective garment, say while riding a motorcycle or rock climbing, but as a day to day light jacket it's great. I snagged mine at the store a while back, whereas the leather did not rip it did leave a nasty mark in the sleeve. Over all I have no complaints with mine. Well worth the money IMHO.

I agree with Alphared.
A nice jacket.

It's probably one of the most SA jacket's out there and a tremendous bargain. However, the durability and workman ship is not at the same level with the custom Westeds, G&B, or the Nowaks.....which should be expected given the price. The one I have right now has stitching coming apart all over the place and I rarely wear it. It's a good costume jacket and for occasional wear.

I bought one and returned it. "Ruggedness" and "robustness" are not qualities that spring to mind. It is lamb, after all, and a thinner hide than I had on my Expedition or Wested.
I will say this for Todd's jackets -- they look great in photos, and they are inexpensive. To me they are great costume pieces; they look the business, but I wouldn't rely on one for everyday use.

I've worn both of mine everyday for months on end, both to/from work as well as everyday knock-about wear and they are both holding up fine.
I did ask Todd if it would be possible to repair the handwarmers on my first one after almost a full year of ownership. The separator in the pockets had pulled out soon after I bought it in 2008, but I wasn't one to complain. I was ordering a new one with the different leather and thought to ask. He did the repair for the cost of shipping ($15) and it came back like new.
The new one was on my back every day; every, day, until it got to be 80-some degrees in the morning and I decided to put it on summer hiatus. Mind you this has only been for the last month or so, and it is getting close to the point where it will be back in the daily rotation.
Having never owned the other brands I can't speak for them, I flirted with a Wested when I was going to get my lastest Todd's; but the "knowns" in this case (what you get for the cost, the "look" of the product, and the service during and after the sale) I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Todd's for a jacket.

I have a Todd's standard. I don't wear it in fact it is still with tags. It is a nice jacket and the weight of the lambskin and construction of the jacket parallel the 2 Wested ToDs I have.

For regular everyday use it's great, no worries for going around town, etc. You can even take it into the sticks, but don't go crazy tracking through dense brush and thickets, or sliding down rocky slopes on your back.
I changed my oil with it on, and it did get a few semi-minor scuffs on the rear, so yeah, beware that it has it's limits. The dark brown coating is rather thin and the backing is rather light. However, I have one of the older Todd's standards, so that may have changed as he has refined and upgraded his leather choices a bit since then.

I bought one out if sheer curiosity. And have never worn it, outside of trying it on for size.
Thin and plasticky and the cuffs are too narrow for my taste.
I keep meaning to wear it for some 'in gear' pics before selling it, but really haven't got round to it.

I have an older Todd's and a newer model (which is quite different). Both have held up great. Since getting the newer one I've worn it nearly daily including using it in a fan made movie. It's been on the beach, in the mountains, in the dirt and gravel, in trees, climbing rocks and it's still in perfect shape. I also have a Wested lamb, and a G&B goat, and while Todd's is thinner and not as 'hearty', it's been a great jacket for me.

The only leather jacket I own is the Todd standard. I find really comfort for everyday use, and really SA.

What is the difference between the old Todd's Standard and the new one? I understand the pocket config has changed so your hands can go inside the lining, similiar to a Wested, but are there other differences as well?

My first standard I sold last year to Adam Savage. I did some minor weathering on it and have seen Adam wearing it lately on a few MythBusters episodes... looks like it's wearing very well for him too.
For all the SA details these are pretty spot on, and his new issue sizing is even better.
You can not leave these as new in the box though, they really wake up and look the part after beating them down for a bit, or just get the thing damp and sleep in it, shoot it with some alcohol to break up the shiny surface, that kind of thing. I really prefer these over most of the Indy's I've had, they are a great light weather jacket. And they'll take the same amount of beating the average Wested will that is for sure, and I've had the Westeds in lamb, goat, and horse so far.

I know this thread is for the standard, but I have a Todds custom. And I litterly wear it every day, untill it got to humid, but let it get a tad cool and it's on.
I love the jacket.

I've had mine for about a year and a half now... Like many people pointed out here, it's not as filmsy as you may think it is. I took it everywhere with me camping and all that... No problems so far. I like the look and fit. If you can find one that fits you and you don't baby the jacket too much, it'll feel awesome and look awesome on you. Just don't wear it while being dragged behind a truck. It ain't THAT tough... but everyday wear? Absolutely! and I have been wearing it pretty much everyday!!

I love my Todd's Standard. I've had it for over a year now and wore it daily ALL last fall and winter. In fact, I just got it out the other day with the cooler weather coming and I'm waering it right now. I've had some occasional loose stitching, but not a lot, and I have had the hand warmer issue, but that's no big deal to me, especially for a $150 OTR jacket. Would I drag behind a truck in it? No. Do I wear it every day? Pretty much, when the weather permits. It's definitely not a costume jacket. Try doing a search and look at what Weston did to his Todd's Standard...
Oh, and by the way, very SA IMO.
Just my 2 cents,
-Bogart

well i have had my todds standard since feb. i have worn daily on the cooler months and have been wearing daily now for about a week and feels good and looks great , i don't own the other jackets , but from the feeling of the jacket i think it will last quite awhile ,
in the winter months tho i dont think i will be able to layer it but i have the lottery indiana jones jacket i got last year which i layered during the winter last year and that lasted. but i will have to test out the todds thuis winter to see if it cuts the mustard
