Come on guy, tells us what you know. With production starting in Spring 04 some propmaster for Indy IV must be thinking about ordering whips.

Thanks in advance Sergei.

Has anyone else here heard any rumors about the whipmaker for Indy IV? Will it be Mr. Morgan again? Who else would you recommend if you were a consultant to the propmaster?

I would say Strain and Stenhouse both deserve consideration. I just hope Harry Ford will not be to old to get it to crack.

Thanks
Bill Walton

<speaking in a very Scotish accent> You arrrre a presistent, Buggerrrrrr! :-)

Bill, all it all comes down to the stunt coach who is hired for the film. If it wasn't for Glenn Randall Jr., most likely it would not have been David Morgan whips in Raiders. Glenn happened to have 5 David Morgan whips in his possession during Raiders pre-production. It could have been one of the Aussies, like Tom Hill Sr., or Terry Jacka. All I know is that Glenn Randall is out for Indy IV. Vic Armstrong is the leading candidate for stunt coordinator, but he will bringing on board a whip coach. Enter Alex Green. If it's Alex, he will bring in his favorite whips. Don't get me wrong, the above is not necessarily true, but I am using it as an example on how things work. But I am 100% certain on one fact, Glenn does not have the job.

I married the smartest / prettiest girl in college because I asked her out and asked her out and asked until she finally said yes.

Thanks for the update Sergei, YOU ARE THE MAN!

You make a lot of sense by saying the whip expert will provide the whips. And you are right Randall did bring Morgan into the picture.

Now I know Vic Armstrong was a stunt guy for HF whom worked his way up the ladder to coordinator for LC. However, I have never heard of Alex Green. Who is he? Is he a whip teacher? Where is he from? What kind of whips does he use?

Now that you have given me a taste I want to know more.

Frankly if Armstrong gets the job and is smart he would hire you Sergei, as Whip Coordinator. You would make sure it’s done right. What maker would you choose? Loaded question I know but again if you are afraid to stick your toes in the water you can never learn to swim.

Thanks Again S. We are getting closer man! What does everyone else think?

Thanks, Bill. I just forward this thread onto Stephen, as in Spielberg. If I get hired, you get the usual 10% agent fees. Hand shake....:-) Done!

OK, we got that matter solved.
However, I have never heard of Alex Green. Who is he?

Well Alex is huge. He has appeared in over 100 films as a stunt double or actor. Alex also has been involved in many film, TV productions in his 45 year career as a stunt coach in all things western, action, adventure. He taught Sir Anthony Hopkins in the Zorro movie to do all the whip cracks. He also founded the Stunt Professional Organization in Canada.

Here are some excerpts from his bio:
One stuntman who's showing no sign of slowing down is industry legend Alex Green, at 62 one of the oldest in his trade in Canada. Ever since his first stunt, doubling Oliver Reed on the set of The Trap in 1965, the Vancouverite has been throwing himself down stairs and out of buildings. In 1968 Green founded Stunts Canada, now 52 members strong and the second largest stunt group in the world. When preparing to double Sir Anthony Hopkins in The Mask of Zorro (1998), Green spent about 100 hours reviewing Hopkins' films to memorize every movement. "I watched them without the sound," says Green, "and fast-forwarded through the other characters. I have the timing down so well that I'm his perfect double." Green recently worked on Scooby-Doo 2 and plans to train Halle Berry this fall for Catwoman. "Halle has to learn how to use an eight-foot bullwhip. When a whip cracks, it goes 1,500 km/h and the tail is moving at 425 m per second. If you're on the other end it'll slice you like a razor blade, so it's pretty important she does it right."

When I see a photo of You, Strain and Green arm in arm in arm, all with Cheshire grins, it is obvious to me that Strain has the inside track on any Green project. And if I remember correctly Strain made the whips for “The Mask of Zorro”.

If Strain does the Indy IV whips I would feel a little sad for Mr. Morgan because I know how much he loves the whip. However I would also be happy for the long-term benefits to Joe Strain. Them he could also say he made the whips for an Indiana Jones movie.

If your do get the job I would defer my 10% agents fee for a credit at the end.

Bill Walton / Agent for Whipmaster Sergei

That way every time I see “Indiana Jones and the Fountain of Youth” I would stay till the end to see my name on the screen.

Thanks again Sergei, keep us informed.

Bill,
You are always welcome. Thanks for asking. You have been always a true supporter.

BTW, Vic is more or less confirmed. He's been told to clear his calendar. I heard this from an Aussie article I read about him being told by Speilberg to clear his calendar. And the other connection is that Alex and Vic are great buds. Also I did sit down with Alex at the last WWAC 2003 convention last March and he strongly dropped the mesage that Vic was in. I didn't have to ask, that Vic would then choose Alex. That's just a given fact. So there you have it. But I know that the prop department did call both David and WSP. I have learned a long time ago, it's not over til it's over. Yogi Berra is good for something.

Thanks Sergei, hey we are getting down to a short list!

If I am a supporter Sergei is because you have always gone out of your way to answer my questions. When I joined this forum I was a whip guy who loved the Indiana Jones movies. However I did not know who David Morgan was or roo skin from cow. #### I probably would have used Pecards to grease my hair.

You and everyone here have educated me and I have enjoyed it. I hope to meet you some day in person to thank you in person.
