In the Zone

Post by bobm2004 »

And I am sure you all know what I mean!! My last couple of whip plays have been out of this world!

Example 1: Last Thursday I went out after cutting grass with my 10 foot Bernardo Del Carpio bull whip and just started throwing it around and man was it singing and sinning loudly with little effort. I would up doing a side arm-overhead-underhand-slow figure eight-cattleman's combo that was hitting on all cylinders. Being bold and full of good feeling, I switched to my off hand, my left, which usually feels like I am physically disabled when I try and crack with it-but not that night. The same combo worked! So I switched back to the right hand and figured I would put a little something on it. I powered my way, and I mean powered, through the combo and my ears wound up ringing a little! HA!

Example 2: Tonight, a few minutes ago. I went back to the Del Carpio and it was still singing. So I switched to my 7 foot Jacka stock whip and started tossing it and it too was responding to my lightest touch! I practiced a new move and put it in. So it is now a side arm-body wrap-overhead-underhand-slow figure eight-cattleman's combo. Right, then left! Bang right on! Left hand-bang! Switched to my 6 foot Jacka and hit everything with it, right and left-for over a half an hour! Feeling super pumped I grabbed the 22 footer, made a few practice forward flicks with it, which makes a massive crack by the way with just the weight of the whip. Took a deep breath, rolled it straight out in front of me and launched into a cattleman's-and to my utter delight CRACK! Arms up in the air-victorious! Three more and I was beat-that whip is a bit to toss, especially at the end of a long session.

I of course try and explain to my wife how great this all was and of course, not having the same frame of reference, just did not get it. Bless her heart she tried to act enthusiastic! So I just had to come on here and share-with the only group that would understand. Lets face it, this place rocks for the whip enthusiast (thanks COW).

Anyway, I knew I would find some in here who have experienced being in the zone and just had to share-all pumped up!

Great post, Bob! I know how you feel; when you're out there cracking, and everything's working good, and you discover something new, it's quite a feeling! And like you said, very hard to relay to the non-whipcracker.

Good to hear that you are "in the zone"! :whip:

I have two good 'roo whips, a 10' EM-Brand whips, Indy style, and an 8' Joe Strain KOTCS Indy whip.

But right now, I have a number of whips on order: My Del Carpio 9' Raiders should be here within a couple of weeks (I can't WAIT!) :D

I just spoke to Joe Strain and gave him a deposit for his 10' Raiders SA whip =P~

Terry Jacka says, "Your whips are made, but I'm waiting on the Export Permit"; my whips being a 10' KOTCS whip, and a 7' Delongis style in black, =P~

And finally, I caved rather quickly upon seeing the Midwest Whips/AB SA Raiders whip, so I ordered one from Marc Kitter in 8'. :P That one, it seems may not show up until Christmas time or later, but nevertheless . . .

So within a few weeks, I should have 3 new whips, and Joe's should follow along about a month later. And the AB whip in a few months after that. After THAT, I intend on ordering a matched pair of Australian 5' or 6' whips for two-handed work, and may also look into a pair of Midwest Whips Performance Hybrids, also for two-handed crackin'!

I guess I've been feeling "In the Zone" a lot lately, otherwise, I wouldn't be spending all of my extra money on whips (and lessons with Anthony DeLongis--just got back from my second day trip about two weeks ago!) If you can fly out from Illinois to meet him, I highly recommend it!

Cheers, and keep crackin'! I know I will!

Absolutely Bob!
Round these parts we get big thistle bushes that dry up come summer, and they make perfect targets when you get out in the country and wanna do some target practice. Crack! Crack! Crack! One after the other. My wife was around for this one and I was glad she got to see it. So much that even she tried her hand at it ( with limited results I must add :) ) But it was great for her to see how I enjoy this hobby. You are at one with the whip and all of your problems and whatnot just fade and it leaves a big smile on your face. \:D/ A total flow state!
Thwak! :whip:
