Vehicle hat rack?

I would like to find a hat rack that I can hang my fedora on when I'm driving my vehicle. I'm thinking of a rack that attaches to the head rest posts behind either front seat, or possible one that I could hang from the clothes hanger rod that hangs on the two coat hooks behind the second row of seats. I'm currently driving a Honda Oddyessy van, not a pick up truck, which is what I've found most car hat racks are for. Does anyone know of some products I could look into? Thanks in advance. I did try to search for this topic, but got a lot of non-relavent posts. I have searched the internet and didn't find one suitable. I don't have any roof molding to slide a rack into, and I'm not too keen on screwing holes into the ceiling, as I'd want to remove it when it comes time to sell the vehicle or trade it in. The suction cup window hooks won't work with the sliding passenger doors, or when I have a passenger in the front seat (often enough that I don't want to be taking it off and on frequently), and my windows are tinted on the inside. Something to hang off the back of the front seats via the head rest posts or the hand hold bars at the back of front seats would be ideal. If I could move it from seat to seat, depending on passengers and cargo, that would be be great, too.

I got one of these from a member here.

http://www.orvis.com/store/productchoic ... f_id=85AES

Orvis doesn't carry them any more and I can't find anyone else who does but it works great and I think it's what your looking for.

I'll search for them online. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Why didn't I think of that -- when all else fails pray to the deity . . .

Most western wear stores around here sell these. Here's a link to a national retailer with several options:

Thanks, I've seen the Hat Saver rack. I don't have the molding above my windshield to slip it into, and I don't want to permanently screw it into my headliner. The suction cup one won't work for my minivan, since both passenger doors slide open to the outside of the van. I don't see me sticking on the front seat passenger side either, as that would interfere with the passenger getting in and out of the vehicle.

Maybe what I'm looking for doesn't exist, except for that Orivs product. I understand to the above post that Orvis doesn't carry it any longer and I searched eBay for one to no avail.

Thanks for everyone's input so far.

It's not that I have anything in the ovens for something like this but it does give me an idea, and we know what happens when I get idea's.

Orvis Customer Service via live chat was able to find a product that I think will work. Check this out http://www.schnees.com/product/1949/rand-hats

of course the real issue is that modern cars are not built with enough headroom for a hat.
I propose the foundation of the International League Against Hat-room Discrimination, a pressure group to force car manufactures to make sensible cars. Cars with tall cabins, sweeping wheel arches, runner boards, brass headlamp and strap on picnic trunks!

This just came up over at the Fedora Lounge. Hmmm... :-k

You want to move something seat to seat, try this;

Imagine a hat box with no walls. Just the base and the tube. I scavenged materials and made just such a thing that I used for several years.

Chewie, can you post of photo of your scavenged contraption?

OK, this one I reinforced with a box around the ring because I knew it was going to get banged around a lot. But the principle is the same. It's not pretty, but it works. The wide base is necessary so that if the whole thing slides, the hat's brim doesn't touch the back of the seat it's on.

Thanks Chewie, that certainly is creative. I would never have come up with something like that. Cudos to you. That would take up an entire back seat, though, so I'm still looking at something a little less bulky. If I end up with that stirrup model, I'll need to make sure something on the seat behind it doesn't come smashing forward if I have to brake hard. Cardboard, though, fits, my budget at the moment. Good work and thanks for posting your pictures.

Yeah, the fact that it consumes a seat was the problem I had. But then, I have to occupy a seat with the hat alone, anyhow, so... oh, well. Of course, when I built it, I almost never had all seats filled. Now it seems to happen fairly frequently. #-o

That means he has slipped down to Wal*Mart after midnight and is scoping out which boxes to use. :#:

If Penman's coming out with it, I'm sure it will be nothing but the best!

And Chewie, that's a good DIY job. Though, for myself, I usually wear my hat in vehicles. The only one I have troubles in is my grandmother's Hyundai Sonata. The crown, if I'm not careful, will beat on the ceiling if I move too much.

I've tried wearing my fedora while driving and I have to lean slightly forward so the brim doesn't keep hitting the head rest. That's the primary reason I am seeking a hat rest while I'm driving the vehicle.

It probably depends on the angle/position of the head rest. I can see where that could be a problem.

I just tried the Orvis link. You must have gotten the last one.

We are sorry but Custom Car Hat Carrier is no longer available.
