Indy "hold away"...

Post by kiltie »

Had to show y'all this:
It's currently being auctioned, so I can't post a link ( but you guys are pretty smart...). It's cool enough that I couldn't let it pass without showing it to someone. Looks like something Indiana Jones might carry in a lower profile rig after the fiasco at Club Obi Wan, so's not to get caught with his pants down again... Anyway, pretty neat, huh?

Description:
This is a Webley Mk IV Service Revolver, in caliber .455 Webley. Refferred to as the "Boer War Model". Between 1899 and 1904, a total of 36,756 Mk IV revolvers were delivered to the British Army. Been in my collection for years, and one of the nicest I've seen. Unaltered condition retaining most of its original finish. All original parts. Bright, shiny bore with no pits. No cracks in grips. Mechanically fine. Shoots great. Will ship to FFL dealer or of your choice or C&R licensee. Buyer pays shipping, to be determined after the auction, depending on destination. Please ask any questions before bidding as all sales are final.

Wow, that one's in great shape. IMHO, a have always thought that the Mark IV in .455 would probably have been a better choice for Indy than the WG: same firepower, shorter barrel, less weight. Unless he wanted better accuracy than the 4" barrel guns he used up through Raiders.

Of course, he hit 100% of the targets that the script said he should hit . . .

I've actually had the opportunity to hold one of these at a gunshow MANY years ago. It's one of the best balanced Webley's I've ever held. VERY VERY nice revolver. :M:

I've seen a custom MK VI "shorty" up on gunbroker a couple times.
Barrel is cut down seriously, front sights remounted and some sort
of wood grips attached. Pretty nifty looking piece! As I recall, the
person said it was modded to shoot .45 ACP.

Which it could because it had no barrel to speak of. :)

I think "back up gun" when I see the small Webleys too! It could also be a full size and accurate kids gear pistol. Ok , that may not be a good idea!

lol. I don't care how small "Junior" is, I wouldn't give him a pocket pistol chambered in .45.

Found the picture of the custom MKVI...

Kind of cool. And like I said, safe to shoot modern ammunition through. :)

 What's the point in having a sight on the front of that one? It only looks useful as a point blank weapon!

That thing looks like it would leave your wrist sprained after shooting it!

It's not that much shorter than the silver Webley from TOD... nor the old .38 "Detective Special" that used to be used by the police (at least on TV). I think the .38 only had a 1" barrel. :)

I do admit however that I don't like how they cut down the handgrip. I'd have left it normal sized and just done the barrel mods (assuming I'd done such a mod in the first place).

I may have to cast another Webley barrel section and try converting it into a WG holdout pistol. :)
