Resoling Aldens

Does anyone know if you can have your Aldens resoled with a sole that has teeth like those JCrew boots as opposed to the flat sole that it comes with? If so, what happens to the stiching that rings the outside of the boot? The white stitching on the welt. Is that removed too or does it stay. I would love to resole my boots with a more rough sole but I do not want to ruin the boot by having it ripped apart.

They can indeed be resoled with just about any quality re-sole you want, including Vibram soles. If you find a reputable craftsman/cobbler around, you shouldn't be able to tell the job was even done. Just accept the fact that anytime a sole is replaced, a shoe HAS to be essentially 'ripped apart' to make the repair, but don't worry about that. If your shoe repairman is worht their salt, they'll be just as good as new, but with different soles. Regards. Michaelson

I got mine resoled at James & Williams shoes in L.A. for $25.00. They are also an Alden dealer. Try to get a shop that knows the shoe.

True. The good thing about the 405 is that it's not a mystery type construction. Any cobbler who know his craft can work on the Alden with no problem, so if you can't find one who's an Alden dealer, find one whose been in business for several years. They've seen Aldens come and go in their doors for years. Even the cobbler in my back water of Tennessee was completely familiar with my boots. Regards. Michaelson

If I got them resoled, could they also put on a new welt, the part that rings the shoe with stiches? Or is this something more elaborate that the Alden company would have to do?
