I've worn my holster, a Todd's Raiders, out of the house exactly one time: Halloween last year. But, you know, ya gotta have one if you're gonna have "the stuff". Anyway, my holster was looking a little anemic, so I bought a cap pistol to put in there and give it a little life. As you all know, things have kind of snowballed and now my "stuffer" isn't cool enough any more.
It actually did a pretty good job as it was giving my holster some form...

...but I just wasn't satisfied with the prop itself anymore.
Here is a before pic:

Now, keep in mind this is a work in progress; little experiments to see what may or may not work, whether or not it's simply more cost effective to buy a kit, how much fun doing the modification is, etc... Anyway, I started with a five dollar cap pistol I got at the grocery store - surprisingly the best body I could find, including toy stores, general store, and so on. The other materials I used: a disposible Bic pen, one of those litte "eye" screws, a key ring, 150 grit sandpaper, flat Krylon spraypaint, tape, a sabre saw, and superglue. In other words, aside from the body, stuff that's mostly around the house.
I cut the pin under the barrel with the saw and replaced it with about three quarters of the length of the pen body. I put the screw into the grip after heating it ( the screw ), then trimmed down the key ring to make the lanyard ring. I also sanded the front sight to make it a bit more round and sanded off as much of the cowboy scroll work as my patience would allow. Then I painted the whole thing.
One thing I will definately do with this model is replace the ring using bailing wire or something. The key ring is VERY difficult to manipulate.
In any event, this is what I've come up with so far. Looks a tad beefier, and I killed part of an afternoon:

There you have it....so far .
